NYT: College Advice for Freshmen

Thoughtful piece in this morning's Times:

<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/opinion/06collegeadvice.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/opinion/06collegeadvice.html</a></p>

Thanks for sharing that - I’ve sent the link to my freshman, but it’s 50-50 whether he’ll read it!

LOL, cpeltz. I did the same thing. I think it’s better than 50-50 mine will read it, but far, far less than 50-50 that he’ll let me know he read it.

Excellent article, re-enforces personal view that admissions should be given back to the professors.

Mine isn’t at college yet, so I will INSIST that she read these articles. They are only 1 page each at most and I thought that the insights were excellent! Thanks for sharing.

I did the same; we’re looking at 75-25 here that he won’t all the while saying, “why does she think i have time?”

I really liked the advice about reading a newspaper every day.

Does anyone know what date and what section of the print copy of the NY Times this is in? I’m a print subscriber and flipped through Sunday’s paper looking for this, but didn’t find it.

I figure the best odds of getting my S to see it is leaving the newspaper open to the article sitting on the kitchen table. (This method has proven to work well in the past…)

It says “published Sept 5”

sacchi - back page of the Week in Review.

I’m going to send the hard copy to D (college first-year) - I think she’ll be more likely to read it that way.

Found it. Thanks. Now we’ll just have to see if the leaving-it-on-the-kitchen-table plan works.
