Here’s a link to an article in the New York Times about the likelihood of elite schools going to their wait lists this year:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/09/education/09admissions.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Bowdoin has already reached its numerical target for next year’s first year class (480) but could go to the waitlist later in the process if some of those 480 get taken off wait lists at the Ivies and decide to enroll elsewhere. The article notes that Harvard, for example, expects to take 150 applicants off its wait list so there could be a ripple effect as the elite colleges dip into their wait lists.
