:) I think you have a decent chance at Stern. My school has an affiliation with NYU and we can take courses at NYU freely (ok, we have to pay for our school tuition anyway).

I have internships at investment banks and asset management firms, but my experiences as an intern tells me that I need a liberal arts education. :)

Haha...I'm at the end of my thread. After 2 years at a CC, it becomes very important to get the hell out. NYU Stern is located in NYC, I visited and loved the school, and it is one of the best schools for Finance in the nation...

Reason:
If I'm going to be one of 30,000 undergrads, I'd rather be in New York City. But that isn't the main reason at all: I love that Gallatin has a writing-based curriculum and very flexible requirements. (I'm an English major, and one reason for my low GPA is the relatively challenging physics, chem, and econ courses I've taken.)

I like where I am, but I know it'll be much more difficult for me to get a good job coming out of Davis than NYU. I have a ton of friends here, and it'll be pretty sad to leave them but most of my good friends are old Davis residents anyway, and I'll be back every holidy since I'm an old Davis resident too. Anyway, NYU is my first choice!

I want to head into Stern but I don't have any semesters of accounting. If not having the managerial accounting will significantly affect me, then i'll probably apply to CAS for sociology.

I'm still looking for information on how much not having managerial will affect me though. Does anyone know?

Someone from my school, (engineering), who hasn't take a class related to business transferred to Stern 2 years ago. he was my sister's friend btw.

As long as you have solid GPA like you do and they see you are passionate about Stern and the education it gives, you will be fine

Also I think if you are doing much better than you did in hs, that helps a lot. I guess tells them that you've matured and etc.

there was one kid who didn't apply to Stern in HS because he thought he wouldn't get in and didn't want to waste time on the app only realizing that his friend who has lesser credentials got in to Stern. his friend goes to Stern and my friend he goes to Rutgers (NJ state univ.)

Reason:
I love NY. I love the atmosphere. NYU offers such a great chance at being at a great school, and having amazing advantages that you wouldn't normally get in a smaller town. It has a great international community and since I want to major in Business (not sure exactly what) and minor in International, it's even better.

yeah I'm looking at the potential apps, I'm very nervous already. Everyone has such high creditentals compared to me...

NYU- CAS
college gpa: 3.83 or 4.0
major- psych (pre-med) and spanish
activites- political club, biomedical honor corps, african student union

high school: gpa (w)- 3.8
activities- pres of young dems, mock trial
vp of model un
captain of a varsity sport
all IB/AP classes junior and senior year

weak parts of app.
F in math junior year
D in ib physics senior year

but in college ive a an A in my math and science courses

my SAT is just plain bad its a/b a 1700 i think.

esperame, I don't think your stats are bad at all!

As I understand from reading some of the NYU posts on their admissions site, HS matters less as long as you show them how you've evolved from being a slacker into a person who is now very serious about school and etc. If I were you, and this applies to me as well, I would emphasize how I have changed and capable of doing well above peers. you now want to study at an institution with great liberal arts education curriculum with fellow students who share the same view and you want to grow from the solid undergrad edu that nyu provides.

some of your activities are great but it all depends on how well you present them to the admissions committee. good luck! and I really really hope we both get in :) NYU is my first choice.

CVjn, your internship experience could be the factor you will get in! who doesn't love a young student pursuing his or her internship abroad? I have a feeling this will make you stand out from many other applicants to Stern. :)

I do hope so too. If we all got in, party at my place :)

A huge business oppertunity is the Asian market atm, and I hope my skills in Chinese, Korean and a bit in Japanese will help. Maybe I should ask a VP of Sanyo (who I got offered another internship sometime soon!) to write something for me... :)
