Thanks, I am hoping it will overshadow my hs gpa. Plus I will have close to 80 units so I hope that helps too. :)

Thanks for the encouragement!

Hm, seems like more people apply to Stern than to any other NYU schools...is this true?

I thought CAS receives a larger number of applicants for its transfer admission.

So...any CAS????? or Gallatin? Tisch?

anyone else applying to NYU for fall 2007???

holy crap jtoc06, wow, I must respect you.

with your college GPA, I really don't think Stern is a reach school. 4.0 makes you stand out... kudos for 4.0s! haha

i wish i have 4.0 gpa :( it's impossible for me now

SAT matters less since you are a transfer student.

@jslee1026,

yeah, but being that i'm currently a freshman with only 13 credits, I think having a good SAT score (2000+?) will help me balance out my bad HS GPA (3.4)

Hey, but 4.0 College GPA is HUGE.

THAT will balance out.

Note that NYU does not consider SAT scores taken after HS graduation.

@ jslee1026,

thanks for the heads up on the SAT scores. unfortunately i still have to take them to improve my chances at W&M :-(

im doin cas as well...

Hello. I am a transfer student at Stern currently from UIUC. I just felt that I should let you all know a couple of factors that I want you guys to consider before you apply to stern.

Do you like a campus enviroment? Are you really a city person? If you are at a college campus enviorment right now, look out the window. There may not be alot of things to do there, but do you like the green landscape? NYU doesnt have it- Washington Square Park is the closest thing to green it the area and thats not much.

Most of your classes will not be at the Henry Kaufman Management Center (thats for graduate students), it will be at Tish Hall the building adjacent to it (red one). Most of your first semster classes will be in the basement.

There is only one library for undergrad: Bobst.

Stern has a cohort program in which they try to help freshmen welcome in the community. As a transfer you will be put into one of these groups that are meant for freshmen (left discuss freshmen events).

Transfers get a limited choice on housing. If you do come go to WATER STREET THATS SUPPOSEDLY THE BEST. CORAL Towers is close to Palladium cafeteria.

Are you leaving because there is nothing to do? Doing nothing is so underrated (its whether you are doing nothing with your FRIENDS that matters).

Don't decide you want to transfer before the first semsester.

If you are pressured to go to a better school by family or community just ignore them. Think about you. Ignore the Rankings too, they arent the rank of schools best for YOU they are just formulas calculated. Remember Bill Gates is a DROP OUT. If you are obsessed with rankings check out what other things that your school (now is "good" in) and see if you are interested in that (double major).

A good idea would be to do a summer at NYU and see if you like it.

The profs are good and will know your name. The classes are small but remember generally all colleges will have smaller classes the higher level courses you take. It shouldnt be a big decision influencer.

All of the above are facts. Good luck!

Of course there are certain things like the cohort thing that could do with some improving. NYU Stern is still a great school. Its in NYC.
You can do projects with real amazing companies instead of reading books. Its hands on.

Choosing which school you want to go to is a balancing act.

It just depends on the type of person YOU are.

"Hello. I am a transfer student at Stern currently from UIUC. I just felt that I should let you all know a couple of factors that I want you guys to consider before you apply to stern."

This applies not only to Stern, but to any transfer student to any college -

Do you like a campus enviroment? Are you really a city person? If you are at a college campus enviorment right now, look out the window. There may not be alot of things to do there, but do you like the green landscape? NYU doesnt have it- Washington Square Park is the closest thing to green it the area and thats not much.

Trust me, I've been on a traditional campus. I don't make such a big deal out of "omg! NYU does't have a traditional campus". Honestly, it does not make much negative environment. -

Most of your classes will not be at the Henry Kaufman Management Center (thats for graduate students), it will be at Tish Hall the building adjacent to it (red one). Most of your first semster classes will be in the basement.

-I've been to the building several times and attended classes. It's good.-

There is only one library for undergrad: Bobst.

-Yes, and No. There are several libraries. There is one dedicated to Stern as well as to other schools. Moreover, Bobst is big enough and has more books than you can ever read in your entire life even as a researcher. Take a subway and goto New York City Public Library. -

Stern has a cohort program in which they try to help freshmen welcome in the community. As a transfer you will be put into one of these groups that are meant for freshmen (left discuss freshmen events).

-I can't comment on that since I've never transferred to NYU-Stern-

Transfers get a limited choice on housing. If you do come go to WATER STREET THATS SUPPOSEDLY THE BEST. CORAL Towers is close to Palladium cafeteria.

-Trust me, there are many housing options around NYU. You can rent a bedroom for even $750/month. It's way cheaper than what you pay for 1 room NYU dorm.-

Are you leaving because there is nothing to do? Doing nothing is so underrated (its whether you are doing nothing with your FRIENDS that matters).

-what??? you get to know people at NYU, then you will have friends plus NYC.-

Don't decide you want to transfer before the first semsester.

-This is quite obvious since NYU and many other colleges require you to complete at least 1 full year-

-Bill Gates at least has gone to Harvard and dropped out of Junior year...then...he became the richest man as an entreprenuer...what an extreme example? Trust me, if you want to get a good job, especially I-Banking, you may want to attend a good school. You have slim chances of landing a job at a major IBank when the bank does not come to your campus for their analyst positions...-

A good idea would be to do a summer at NYU and see if you like it.

-That's actually a good recommendation. I spent a summer at NYU as a pre-college student when I was in HS. I loved it.-

The profs are good and will know your name. The classes are small but remember generally all colleges will have smaller classes the higher level courses you take. It shouldnt be a big decision influencer.

-well, that's quite obvious. but i once had a class with 900 other freshman at a large state school. that rarely ever happens at nyu-

All of the above are facts. Good luck!

-good luck to you too though i am not applying to Stern :) -

What were your responses to the questions who have posted here??? Curious...haha...

Take a subway and goto New York City Public Library.
[/quote]

Yeah, that place is amazing!

I am not discouraging by any means. Apply its an "Amazing school". Sorry if you didnt like what I said but thats just somethings that I encountered that I would have liked to have heard from someone before I applied. And thanks for the suggestions: ill go check out the public library.

Oh by housing I meant the on campus (provided by NYU) housing has limited options. They give you certain options so it would be a good idea to check out the housing or apartments before getting to NYU.

Again I would emphasize the NYU is a great school to go to! Starbucks is on your meal plan. They have movies filmed on campus frequently. Recruiters are every where. You can have internships while in college with amazing firms. Teachers have hands on experience and are among the best in what they are teaching.

Hey Cheini, what were your stats when you transferred into Stern?
