that's cheini's stats and his proof of admittance

Btw i got a 4.0 the second semester so my GPA became 3.88. They requested them after I sent the first semster grades. If you have any questions for transfering let me know.

Oh and when I said there is only one library for undergrad: Bobst. I meant for undergraduates. Of course you can go to the other graduate libraries. Though there are limited access policies for undergrads in some.

New York University
College of Arts and Sciences or Gallatin

Add to the school you are applying to:
College of Arts & Science 4 (I think)
Stern
Tisch
Stienhardt
Gallatin 2
Social Work

Transfer term: Fall 2007
Current School: Cuyahoga Community College, Highland Hills, OH
Current College GPA: 3.43, but will be closer to 3.6 after this semester
SAT1: 690 verbal/420 math (ouch)

SAT2:
N/A, but 22 ACT

ECs: I have worked full time for most of my comm. college career, so none for college...I have a lot of theatre-related activites from HS, but those were so long ago, I don't know if they count (I was a playwright and was performed a few times, at school and through winning a contest at a local theater. I also attended a nationally-known apprenticeship program where I worked with professionals in the theatre and such).

On the upside, I made the Dean's List for 2 semesters and will probably make it again this semester. Also, I will be eligible for Phi Beta Kappa at the end of this semester. So I guess that helps.

Reason: I mean, c'mon. It's NYU. While I'm no longer considering Tisch as a possibility, NYU has a great philosophy program (my new intended major), which is why it's near the top of my list.

I'm feeling really inadequate right now, considering how decorated many of the other CC students on here are...

Welcome aboard to 2007 NYU transfer thread StephanieDedalus! :)

Your stats look solid! I like your verbal score Steph :) College of Arts and Sciences and Gallatin emphasize heavily on writing. I think you have a good reason to transfer and good standing to be competitive. :)
Isn't Phi Beta Kappa an honors society for community college students? I heard this weighs in a lot as a community college transfer applicant. plus you made it to the dean's list for the past two semesters. Gosh...why are people so competitive :(((

I am applying to CAS as well. Wouldn't it be amazing if we all get into NYU? Perhaps we can throw a CC party after our notifications. :)

Let's keep our fingers crossed...

So far...
College of Arts & Science 4 (i am too lazy to recount them..haha people please add them correctly!)
Stern 6
Tisch
Steinhardt
Gallatin 1
Social Work

New York University
Anticipated school you are applying to within NYU

Add to the school you are applying to:
College of Arts & Science: metropolitan studies

Transfer term: spring 2007
Current School:Community College
Current College GPA:3.55; 3.86 (49 completed units 20 in progress) at current CC and 2.4 (13 units completed) at previous college
SAT1:1130 (old)

SAT2: 1580
If applicable

ECs:City planning department internship 20 hours per week
assistant clerk at city planning department 20 hours per week
wrestling coach 10 hours per week

Reason:at the end of my cc educational goals and want to transfer. i used to go to CU boulder but messed up and got a 2.4 and got an ethics code violation. i was honest about the incident on my application but am suspicious that it won't hurt my chances.

Danky,

:) Noone is able to predict your chances at NYU and other schools where you may decide to apply.

I try to predict my chances at NYU based on the given information provided by NYU undergraduate admissions site.

They say that successful transfer applicants have B to A- college GPA...which is indeed a quite extensive range.

Since 3 is B and 3.67 is A-...I would assume if you are somewhere in that range, you are considered quite competitive. Of course, higher the GPA the greater your chances hahaha :)))

3.55 and 3.86 GPA is really really good. And you have already completed 49 units and 20 in progress puts you far ahead of majority of other applicants i think...the longer you stay at your current university (assuming you did well throughout) the greater your chances.

This is all from NYU admissions site. It's really helpful to visit that website.

I think your ECs are quite unique and extensive as well..compare to mine of course...

:((( it's frustrating, so many competitive applicants...

btw, in your case, i think SAT is not going to be considered at all...it's just useless since you have been at a college for so long.

Also, your essay will be a killer. :) what a turn around ha :)

College of Arts & Science 5
Stern 6
Tisch
Steinhardt
Gallatin 1
Social Work

you don't think that the ethics code violation will be an issue if it has been fully discussed on the application??

It's not going to be skipped over. But I am sure it does not affect your entire application. Plus, isn't that what made you into who you are right now? Aren't you more mature now than before? Aren't you more motivated now? more focused? clear of where you are heading?

I think a turn-around story like yours with solid academic track record after the incident could actually benefit you.

I really think you are quite competitive. Let's all keep our fingers crossed :)

Props to jslee for being so supportive to everyone on this thread!

On a side note, at NYU, is taking interdepartmental classes common/or allowed?

I was browsing the NYU message board about a month ago and I read a post from one of the admission reps that the average gpa for transfer students is actually a 3.7 on the dot.

could you post a link to the nyu message board where you found that discussion? also, does anyone know how many transfers are freshman transfers and how many are junior transfers?

I have no recollection of reading a post by one of the NYU admissions representatives that transfer GPA is exactly 3.7.

This information is misleading.

NYU has no minimum (no maximum haha) GPA required from transfer applicants. However, they generally want to see a GPA between a B to an A-.

Gallatin students may take courses from almost all NYU schools. However they do however limit those students from taking some of the Tisch classes and Stern courses. I believe you could only take about 30 something credits from Stern as a Gallatin student.

Stern students could double major in any CAS major. However CAS students may not double major in any Stern major.

Social Work school allows its students to take courses from CAS and it also lets its students to double major in any CAS major.

Taking courses at different schools isn't uncommon. In fact, I believe they encourage since students are then exposed to wider breadth.

:) Isn't it great? My school is totally the opposite.

i also read that NYU's average GPA of admitted students is 3.7

angela8345 could be right.

However I still do not think the GPA is 3.7 and period.

NYU admissions process is holistic in nature. Your entire application will be examined. Of course, college GPA is perhaps weighted far heavier than other factors.

It seems like NYU admissions emphasize the fact that there is no sure way to get admitted and there is no set requirements to be admitted.

They generally want to see B to an A- average. Surely, successfully admitted applicants could have slightly higher GPA than the average GPA of entire applicant pool.

:) Thanks angela8345

well to end this debate i called nyu admissions yesterday and asked. the lady i talked to said that "to be competative you should have around a 3.5". but it doesn't suprise me to hear the actual average transfer gpa is a 3.7. i didn't realize until i started poking around on this site how competative nyu really is. most people seem to be more than qualified to get in. if there are more people who are going to apply for spring 2007 or fall 2007 then post your information in the correct format. im curious to see what other people are doing.

the people say that the min app GPA is like 3.0, and the most competitive students are 3.5 and up.

While having a 3.0 doesn't auto disqualify you from getting in, the people with 3.5 and up are more likely.

sigh still so worried. 3-4 hours sleep per day... Calculus and some Gen Ed class are killing me... so worried

I was also considering on transfering into NYU, but not into Stern like I thought and get like a International Relations or something along those lines degree. Then get an MBA at Stern. I'm wondering if that's even a viable or possible choice... (Mostly because Stern's got so many good applicants) - (I wanna major/minor in International Business, mostly travel around and stuff)

Good points...

We all don't know how they accept transfer and etc.

What we know is strictly from NYU admissions site and its forum section.

We could do here is to support each other and hope for the best outcome.

:)

Don't let your anxiety do stupid things:

Calling admissions office too often

Trying to see whether you are admitted by tampering with NYU "net-id".

Having inappropriate stuff on your MySpace and Facebook.

Best of luck!

how many transfer applications does nyu receive in the spring? fall? and how many applicants are admitted? is it more difficult to transfer from california? i saw on their website that california is the thrid most represented state behind new jersey.

It looks like NYU does consider your demographic background.

But as long as you have a good GPA and other very important stuff, you should not worry so much.

I really do not think NYU would accept a student with 3.0 GPA from Montana and reject 3.8 GPA from NYC.

But perhaps:

Student1: 3.4 GPA and 1300 SAT1 from Montana; Montana State University
Student2: 3.4 GPA and 1300 SAT1 from New York; New York State University

...hm...

But what do I know? haha

well actually im from california, hence my concern. but ya i guess you're right, i shouldn't worry so much anyways...nyu is my reach school. im really looking at UC San Diego as my most likely option.
