NYU - 2007 Transfer Thread

Biggyboy, anyway, thanks for your comment. I guess I would careful with my words here. :)

LaLaLady, I think you should consult to someone who knows more about all these college experience, financial aid, and etc. We are all on the same boat.

It depends on one's situation. If you feel like you should attend a less expensive college for the same level of education, then perhaps you have the opportunity finding one besides NYU.

NYU is expensive. I am aware of that. But my situation is little bit different. NYU is certainly my top choice and I would do anything to fund for my college experience.

Look for other scholarships (outside of NYU)...i know it's hard...i tried in the past with no avail

I think i am going to pay for my tuition fee as much as I could and loan out the rest and payout little by little doing internship.

You can arrange a monthly payment though. You don't pay lumpsum tuition at once. You can actually decide to pay in a monthly basis.

I am not an expert at this. You probably want to talk to the admissions office or someone who has gone through NYU bills.

You still have some time. Think over. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Just apply and think over for some time.

though constructive criticism is always helpful, simply saying that someone has no chance is not constructive at all. my brother went to usc. he was maybe an average student in high school with no extra curriculars and then went to a CC. he then f***ed up there and wound up getting a 2.9 after three years at a junior college. he did however get straight A's for 1 1/2 of his years there. and he applied to usc on a long shot and got in. so when jslee1026 says she is a shoe-in, I can believe it. plus, having a little confidence will definitely help when representing yourself through the application and essays imo. but just out of curiosity what are your stats biggyboy?

SAT2: N/A

ECs: HS: Varsity Swimming 2 years, 400+hrs community service, internship senior year at urban planning firm.
College: Honors Council...

Reason: UNO is just a commuter school. I feel like I'm missing out on a true college experience.

Other schools I'm applying to: USC, Tulane, UVA...maybe a couple others.

Whoa! 760 on verbal...wow... :) good job

I think you are a very competitive candidate. But really what do i know? :) But i am discouraged now! so many competitive applicants! :))) good to see you gatoca, and best of luck to you

jslee1026, good idea making a list- divided up by school. Hopefully, we'll all get in and have a party.

New York University
Gallatin

Transfer term: Fall 2007
Current School: Elon University
Current College GPA: 4.0 / will transfer with 37-39 credit hours
High School GPA: 3.3
SAT1: 1980 (640V/620M/720W)
SAT2: N/A

ECs: HS: President of Forensics Team, Drama Club, School newspaper, Model UN, Chamber Choir, Choir Council
College: Leadership program (by admit only), a cappella group, RSA/SGA

Reason: Elon is pretty... but hollow. No academic challenge, and lots of indifferent professors. I need to be somewhere bigger!

Other schools I'm applying to: Cornell, W&M, UPitt... others maybe, who knows

Best of luck to everyone

What percentage of the applicants are accepted?
Is it easier to transfer in the spring than in the fall?
When should we hear?
Is the registrar liberal in allowing credits to transfer?
Interested in any and all comments......................

Stern

Transfer term: Fall 2007
Current School: University of Pittsburgh
Current College GPA:B+,A,A,A-
SAT1: 1920

ECs: I'm likely volunteering soon at a local hospital, trying to get a business internship, play intrumural basketball, am learning piano, write poetry, paint, speak fluent russian, and also have a very itneresting life story.

Reason: Don't like the overall school, opportunities and areas of business. Way more opportunities in NYC as well as a much better city.

privet Yury :) where are all these competitive candidates coming from?!?! :( :))) best of luck to you guys

i just received an email from NYU that says I have been "selected to complete a mid-term grade report." a page is attached page with spaces for my classes, teachers signaturers, and grades. does anyone know anything about this? also, how important are the grades? obviously they don't want bad grades, but what are they expecting to see at this point?

Danky,

Most likely, they would like to see if you successfully kept your GPA high this semester. Also, if your grades have improved rather dramatically from your HS or first semester of college, they probably want to see whether you have been successful in keeping the trend upward.

I am sure you did very well this semester :)

danky, are you applying for spring admission as a prospective freshman?

EDIT to above post: danky, i just saw your stats and I think its incredible NYU is still considering you. your GPA and SAT scores are on the low side, so that is primarily why they are asking for a mid-year report. they want great improvements for admission into nyu.

jslee...i constantly see you give poor advice. i'm not trying to come off with effrontery but i noticed that based on the stats provided by danky, you seem to call this "competitive." please keep in mind that the GPA range also includes students who transfer from other competitive schools. for example, a 3.0 from a school like USC will be harder to obtain than in most state schools. this also applies for freshman applicants that are going for places in the ivy leage or "ivy leage-esque" schools. so..anything thats below a 4.0 comes from a very competitive secondary school (mostly private ones such as dalton or andover). colleges know which schools are tougher on grades. basically, you have to consider the whole picture and not just numbers you constantly read off of the nyu website.

good luck to all the applicants.

danky, did you submit your app? Do they only ask for mid-term grades from people who submit the application? Isn't it due in April?

Biggyboy,

My reply to Danky's question regarding his received email from NYU largely comes from the NYU admissions office.

NYU considers all of their applicants. It's very possible that one of the admissions officers visit CC forum. If I were you, I would be cautious.
What do you know about NYU admissions process that leads you to think NYU shouldn't even consider him? We are all on the same boat Biggyboy. Being rude to others on this board does not in any way help your chances. We all hope that everyone gets in. True, it's probably not possible that everyone gets in, but we could support each other. What's good in saying that Danky is lucky that NYU took their precious time to send out a mid-term report to him? Obviously, you are wrong Biggyboy. NYU does consider Danky and yes they even care to send out a mid-term report to him. I hope they do this to you as well Biggyboy.

Danky, I really think you are a competitive applicant. True, what do I know?

I am almost certain he applied for the Spring term. Since you already submitted, I suggest you relax and contact the NYU admissions office directly regarding any further communication between you and the office.

thx for clarification jslee1026

from the posts i've seen on this board, i would definitely say i know more than you. and..the fact that you include SHOULDN'T consider him is just wrong..i never said NYU shouldn't consider this applicant, i simply found it interesting that he was.

i have already stated that i'm not trying to come off as being rude. BUT PLEASE STOP GIVING PEOPLE FALSE HOPE. the fact that you have no thorough criticism to provide for anyone, and simple praises for others' bland academic records is completely ridiculous. CC is mainly a place for receiving and giving advice, if you don't know how to do that and simply think that "oh, the nyu adcoms may check these boards, so i'll be nice to everyone" is PATHETIC. i do think that whoever holds the passion to study at nyu, should, but the simple fact is...not everyone will. this is why CC is here to provide some sort of guidance. please think of what you want to say before posting.
