NYU - 2007 Transfer Thread

there's a difference between complete false hope and encouragement. I'm pretty sure almost every post that jslee has posted about other's applicants is her own opinion, and has stated many times that "hey, I'm not a person who checks this stuff, so I might be wrong, but good luck!"

It calms people down, and either encourages them to try even harder for their goal. If people stop trying after they see "hey I have a chance to get in" they probably won't fit in well at NYU even if they did get in. If you want to discourage people, and make it known that because of their past events, they have NO CHANCE AT ALL in getting into NYU, why would they even bother if there is no chance at a reward at the end?

man I'm so excited I just printed out all my teacher recs today (took freakin forever) and am going to give them to all of the people tomorrow...everything is coming together.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!

Biggyboy, your intention was a good intention. You thought? Unfortunately, others took it as an offense. Do you get it?

So what are you doing here?

What is a false hope to you? Both your opinion and my opinion are partially incorrect because we are not admissions officers. Indeed I do disclose "don't take my words 100%. I am on the same boat. I am here to encourage others who are on the same boat." In fact, when I say that this person has good chances, I mean it based on what is written on the NYU admissions website.

Biggyboy, nobody here has terrible chances. When I see someone who has a GPA of less than 3.0 from a community college and SAT1 score of less than 1100, yes, probably I would be reluctant to say that this particular person has good chances. But look at everyone here. They are all qualified and in fact many of us are competitive candidates, including you.

""oh, the nyu adcoms may check these boards, so i'll be nice to everyone" is PATHETIC" You seem to take my words to the extreme to prove yourself. What's pathetic is your behavior on the board.

As you said, we are here to encourage and give and receive advice. What was your advice other than chanting "i just saw your stats and I think its incredible NYU is still considering you."

There are millions of different ways to convey your message to this person. You took a wrong way and came out with your arrogance.

Best of luck

I will not reply to you any further. I just don't want to deal with you anymore. But anyway Biggyboy, you had your chance to convey your intention in a much better way without offending people on this board.

:) Brand_182, I did not do it yet. I feel it's too early, will just focus on my school work until the winter break haha :)

i can't deal with this..im not replying.

I agree we should always help each other here and create a positive envirnment for everyone. If you don't think the someone has a shot, please make some suggestions for improvement...jslee1026, thank you for creating this thread!!

jslee, are u a guy or a girl?

haha I am a male. Somehow, I was being referred to as a female...it's all good. who cares what i am on the internet. But i am very certain that i am a male.

Cvjn are you a female or a male?

:) thanks crillen.

Well I've pretty much decided for sure I'm applying to Gallatin as a transfer for Fall 07. I pretty much am just amazed by the freedm of the school; I was interested ever since I first read about it. Here go stats:

Black male
College: Onondaga Community College
GPA: 3.4-3.5...somewhere in there lol
Major: Humanities
EC's:Church Youth Pastor, Bible Camp Counselor, Youth Drama Camp Instructor, Student Government, Diversity Club....bunch of other little stuff
Reason for leaving: Communtiy college, sophomore year coming to an end...figure it out lol

And by the way jslee, I welcome your optimistic outlooks on peoples chances. Most people here are gonna apply to the school regardless of what a person on the internet tells them, so why not encourage them? Good chances or bad chances, apps are goin out. Why kill the mood with pessimistic opinions? Okay I'm done lol

What's up -- the King (from Elvis? or ... just curious haha)

Good good good :) NYU must be happy to receive all these good applicants! :)

thefreshprince, you are absolutely right about Gallatin. If you are interested in studying many different areas, you should consider Gallatin. It's a liberal arts school, and gives you more freedom than the CAS.

You could also take upto...about 30 something credts at Stern as well.

Nice decision thefreshprince.

And yes, I agree with you. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Send you apps out, cross your fingers, and hope for the best outcome. Relax and come to our board time to time (don't go crazy over it though haha) and see what others are up to and encourage your fellow transfer applicants! :)

Transfer term: Fall 2007
Transfer College: CAS
Current School: UH Honors
Current College GPA: 3.62-3.85
SAT1: 2400
800- Verbal
800- Math
800 - Writing

SAT2:
Math IIC - 700
Literature-710
Writing-800

Reason:
School is too commuter oriented and I am only able to really know and interact the people within my Honors program. I love my professors, but feel the school is not as concerned with intellectual curiousity as it is within keeping up with the vast number of students it takes in each year and making sure we all graduate on time. I don't want to be a number (x of 22,000), I want to impact my university. Plus, NYU isn't retardedly strict on underclassmen involvement in research, where here, despite having 4 years of research at our medical center, I still can't hook up with ANY bio or stats professor, even as a labor guy.

2400?!??!!? Holy ****. Why are you at UH? (I'm guessing that's Houghton) My friend out of HS got into Princeton with a 2400...

2400 = basically HYP material. how are your high school stats? how do you already know your college gpa? i would assume you are a freshman in college because we're the first class to take the new SAT.

I got into some other good schools, but finaid, coupled with some bad personal and academic stuff forced me to turn down those offers.

Nevertheless, I hope my scores give me a boost in the admissions process because my high school GPA is pretty miserable. I mean I was top 25 people out of 750 for the first 2.5 years, then kaplut all the way down to 130 something out of 700.

I don't already know my college GPA, I just figure right now i'm taking 16 hours, and I pretty much have locked up 12 hours of A(4.00) and I'm fighting in my Honors Calc class and looking at a B- to B which would be a (2.67 or 3.00) which gave me the range. For some of the paper based classes, you can turn in the papers as you finish them, and I've done that (upper level classes where seniors slack) and received my grades back, so I'm only waiting for the joke finals.

I'd be guessing that he's basing it off of his midterm GPA.

I'm a guy, sorry about that jslee, my bad >_>

hey all, glad to see this thread getting more action. anyways, i applied to the spring for the CAS. actually, i'm pretty suprised their still looking at me too. but you do have a pretty brash tone somehow biggyboy. and to jslee, last semester i got a 4.0 while working full time and taking 20 units. this semester is looking more like a 3.7 in 20 units under slightly less work hours, about 30. so my trend has not gone up since last semster but my first smester of college earned me a 2.4 so it is definitely an improvement since then just not a perfect 4.0 anymore. i'm not gonna hold my breath but i still enjoy envisioning the future if i get in.

sorry if i came off as being too negative..not my intention. and getting a 4.0 while taking 20 units and working full time is pretty amazing..i think this is why you're still being held on to, obviously NYU can tell that you have the potential to do very well but may have had some trouble in the past (maybe b/c of some external affects?)

My first reaction: "No way! He must be a freak!!!" haha :) good job, no, excellent job there :) I am just totally scared now :) really, how many people like him are applying to NYU CAS? :) I hope I have a shot despite you guys

:) anyway,

Would NYU offer summer session if they thought you wouldn't just be able to go straight to fall before they reject?

I am sorry jadan413...I couldn't quite fully understand what you are asking.

I might have a similar question:

On the app, there are summer, spring, and fall terms. What's that summer term? Is it just a summer school? or your new life at nyu starts from summer session which means you enter the NYU as a transfer student but you would have to start from the coming summer session.
