NYU 2008 Transfer

Alright since everybody is asking i might as well. What do you think my chances are? Applying to Stern as a sophomore

College:
GPA-Probably somewhere around 3.7 give or take .1 points at the end of this semester
Classes Fall 07-Calc 3, Expository Writing, Microecon, Intermediate Spanish 1
Classes Spring 08-Diff. equations, managerial and financial accounting, physics, intermediate macroecon
EC-Scholars program, Asian Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association

HS:
GPA-4.8 w, 3.8 uw
SAT-Math 760, Verbal 650, Writing 560
Rank-4 of 400
EC-standard academic clubs

well as of nov.1, NYU is starting their decision making so start praying!

trojans1 where are u applying from??

Stern doesn’t take transfer for the spring (i.e. deadline on Nov. 1st). I think your GPA is high enough but you might want to rack up some more ec’s

Alyx- it is hard to say. that low HS GPA might really hurt. everyone says that HS GPA and stats still matter, which of course they do, especially if you are applying as a sophmore. why not wait and try for junior year?

or just really put some elbow grease into your essays and stress your improvement.

Mandela- Thanks for your feedback! I’m applying over Christmas break as a transfer for the fall of my junior year, so I’d have two solid years (or more like a year and a half, but they’d eventually get both years) of really good grades under my belt.

Also… the reason my high school GPA is so low is because I had medical problems that I dealt with throughout my four years and really prevented me from performing well. That 2.6 doesn’t reflect my academic ability at all. (As you can probably tell by my 3.7+ college GPA) Do you think mentioning this somewhere on the application and letting them understand why my grades were so poor would increase my chances?

Thanks!

Oh, also: my college grades are on a significant climb uphill. My freshmen year, I had a 3.54 first semester and a 3.68 second. This semester, I’m on track for a 3.92, and judging by the classes I signed up for next semester, it should be about the same.

Do you think that this big climb would also help?

mention those circumstances for sure! that would really clear up any doubts the adcoms may have. also, if you could get someone like a teacher or counselor who knew you during that time to write you a letter explaining it and how it clearly does not reflect your academic potential, that may help. just a suggestion. i really have no idea how a letter would effect your admission decision, but you should absolutely explain the situation. that really makes a huge difference.

and also seeing that you will be transfering as junior is to your advantage, i think. good luck to you!

I just got this e-mail:
“Thank you for your transfer application to New York University. After an initial review, you have been selected to complete a mid-term grade report. Please follow the instructions contained within the attached document. We appreciate your help and prompt attention to this matter.”

Too bad I had to withdraw from school this semester due to personal reasons. I guess I’m screwed. :</p>

Edit: Should I ask my teachers to put the grades I had prior to withdrawing?

So it looks like they actually might get decisions out my Mid-November!? Yay! NYU!!

I still haven’t gotten my 4th confirmation email yet :(, so I guess I’m not even processed, which sucks.

Anyone else gotten an email yet?

I never got that fourth e-mail either.

Might help. I think your scrrewed though (no offense intended thats just MHO)

None taken.

Prathiba, I’m transferring from North Carolina State

Gokylego, I’m applying for Fall 2008, if that response was directed towards me

already you got a mid semester report? i feel worried, i want something from them..

Why wouldn’t your SAT scores have any weight when applying for transfer admission to NYU? I’ve always heard that SAT scores are taken into account in transfer admissions, is NYU different?

I only got one email that had my temporary ID. However, I did complete the paper application.

Did anyone else fill out the paper application? I wonder if the process time is slower on them since they are not online all pieced together.

Does anyone know when we get the midterm report for people who are applying for fall 2008? I looked on the website and they are not there. Think they will put them on the website after decemeber maybe? Since it seems like they are sending ppl they are interested in for spring 2008 the midterm reports, they wouldn’t put them on the site.

Thanks!

HopefulTransferA, SAT scores do matter.

SAT scores matter a whole deal. in fact, i think that’s pretty much what secured my spot when transferring to nyu.
