Hello I was curious if anyone knew how difficult it was to transfer into CAS Computer Science?

I wanted to go to nyu, got rejected, and ended up at rutgers new brunswick, but wanted to give NYU another shot. I originally was a business major and ended up after a year of problems with a horrid gpa (2.1 … my highschool was 3.8). Considering I now have about (40 something credits), will they still want to view my hs records at all?

And if OVERALL i have a 2.1 gpa, but as of this year (when i switched from business to cs) I have a 3.6 thus far, do I even have a shot at applying or should I stop kidding myself if i don’t have nearly half the credentials these other kids have and give up before I recieve the rejection letter?

ummm… actually I called and asked and they said they will be making decisions soon, which is mid-november. I don’t think it would make sense for them to wait until december since a lot of transfer decisions from other schools have already been sent out - ie Wash U for example… people have been getting emails asking for their deposits and all that.

txchris- I’m actually going through a similar situation as you (although it was my high school that wasn’t great and my college that was good). I e-mailed NYU and asked if they would still require my high school transcript, and they said basically that no matter how many credits you’ve completed, you still need to send those transcripts (they put it nicer though, haha) The more college credits you’ve earned, however, the less emphasis they’ll place on your high school transcript and standardized test scores.

As for whether or not you have a shot at acceptance, I’d say go for it and apply. What’s the worst that could happen? You don’t get in and you transfer elsewhere (if you really don’t like your current school). Or if your heart is completely set on NYU, you can always stay another year (or semester) at your current school and rack up that GPA.

Alyx - the re-apply waiting period at NYU is one year, just so you know. If you don’t make the transfer as a junior, might as well stick around at the current school until you can go to grad school at NYU. If you are rejected as a junior, you could only reapply as a senior…

Lately I have been having serious thoughts of transferring to NYU from the University of Maine, in which case I would apply to CAS for the fall 2008 semester. My father and my two uncles all went to NYU circa 1950-1960. Does anybody know if NYU takes into account alumni relation for transfer students? I don’t yet have a college gpa, as I am only a freshman, however, my high school gpa was a mediocre 3.0. My high school had been highly ranked in the nation for outstanding public institutions, so the curriculum was rather challenging and advanced- something I hope works to my advantage. Like many of you, I am aiming for a 3.5-4.0 gpa this year, which will hopefully make me a qualified candidate. I’m glad I found this forum with people who share the same amazing goal I am hoping to achieve.

I got in with a 3.56 GPA and LOTS of leadership roles in extracurricular activities. What I think maybe gave me an edge was the essay and my letters of recommendation..at least I think I’m still so unbelievably psyched. Any other transfers out there?
