NYU 2008 Transfer

I am going to be applying to transfer to NYU (as well as Fordham) for the Fall of '08. I have a 4.0 GPA at John Jay College (CUNY…not a very good school) and scored a 1050 os SAT’s. My high school GPA was a B+ but I went to a prestigious high school. I also danced ballet profesionally with a well known company and have volunteer and ALOt of work experience. ANy advice?? I can’t bear the thought of staying at John JAy anymore and I am driving myself crazy!!

you may get into fordham. you won’t be able to get into nyu. why on earth did you go to john jay to begin with?? i heard its really ghetto there..there are plenty of better cuny schools (baruch, hunter, queens, brooklyn come to mind)

biggy, where do you get your information? I think she has a shot at NYU. Those stats are NOT that bad, especially the 4.0 in college.

a 4.0 at john jay college isn’t meant to impress adcoms…its more of a requirement if you’re coming from there. sorry if i come out a bit blunt. i don’t know her whole story or for what major she is applying. good luck.

Let’s be buds Orliaes! I heard its REALLY hard to meet people as a transfer, so I say that we be each other’s first NYU friends! LOL :stuck_out_tongue: Do you have a myspace or facebook so that I can find you? Also, were you able to activate your NETID? I wasn’t :frowning: And did your financial aid package come with your acceptance? And lastly, what school were you accepted to?

Did the package come to your mailing address or your home address? Was it big or small? If I havent gotten mine yet, does that mean its a rejection letter?

No, I already got my rejection letter saturday and people here got acceptance letters. so you wont know what youre gonna get. I did feel real torn about not getting in but than again i want to do business but I can’t there anyways

okay, was it in a normal sized envelope? Where did they send it? to your home or to your mailing address? Did you apply super early? Could that be why you got it early?

normal sized, home address, i sent in the application oct. 10 so yea real early. and yup thats why. i felt like ***** when i got the letter, i hope you dont get that feeling. and good luck

Just got rejected. :frowning: Yeah, was a normal sized letter.

damn and i was really thinking you’d get in.. are you in the tri-state area?

Way out in Idaho. It sucks, I really, really wanted in. But we both have NYU Grad school to work for  Also, we are $150,000 closer to our first house :P

haha! yea i was thinking that! cause nyu wouldnt really fit me much anyways (i know defense mechanism) mainly of three things: ill be in major debt coming out of school, i wont be able to study what i want (i applied CAS but realized i wanted business and stern is too tough), and city life is tough and lonesome at times. but yea, im just pulling for acceptance into my two backup schools..

Thats a great attitude. It is good to see that there are good reasonable people here who know that one school saying yes or no won’t end your life.

i didnt get a letter today. this is painful!

gah i need to know!

Personally, I am stoked to start preparing for Grad school. A few years will go by in the blink of an eye.

Also, I am not sure if this was a measure of comfort control but the rejection letter said that Spring '08 was the most selective semester in the history of the school. It looks as though freshmen retention is something of a prize at NYU.

Hey recently admitted. I got in too! I’m sure there will be some sort of orientation before the second semester starts in January so I am sure some of us will meet there. I already know a bunch of people at NYU because my triplet brother is in Tisch. Congrats to all who got in and good luck to those who haven’t heard yet! I can’t wait to get up there…

Me neither. I’m excited  Congrats on your acceptance. Want to be transfer buds? :P

I have no idea why I went to John Jay!! I was a professinal ballerina with Joffrey and wehn I retired I did NOT think about where I was going! It is ghetto as HELL there. A 4.0 is NOT impressive at John Jay, it is SUCh as easy school! I have a decent resume though, including pre dance expereince volunteer ect. I hope that helps me!!!
