I hope I don’t come off as pompous, but the two F’s are huge…Just because they don’t count towards your GPA does not mean that they’ll be viewed any differently then any other grades…the fact that you failed the course and were therefore allowed to retake it as opposed to getting a D and that counting towards your gpa will not work in your favor. your SAT and ACT scores are weak, your EC’s i can’t tell from what you’ve given, but depending on your work experience may be a little lacking as well

I do not believe NYU will look at your grades from the second half of your freshman year as they will be in the midst of making their admission decisions…so the grades you have now are the grades you will most likely apply with…I just don’t see a school like NYU accepting an applicant with only a handful of grades, two of which are F’s…I’d work really hard the next couple of years and compile enough grades and an outstanding GPA and apply in your junior year so that nyu may overlook those F’s earlier in your college career…hope this helps and good luck

ok so i’m currently in my 2nd year at Georgia State University in atlanta. its a big public school. i hate it.

Is this mean I can apply to NYU as a junior standing??

can I get admitted to NYU Gallatin or Steinhardt(communication)??
I really wanna go to NYU:(

plz..give me some advice..how can I get into NYU Gallatin or Steinhardt.
(for example, what is my weakness and how can I recover my weakness.)

i guess you’ll be admitted. your SAT scores could use improvement, but you can’t do anything about that now since you’re a transfer..and it’ll be your junior year. i think you’re fine.

I am applying to transfer to NYU as a reach. Based on my stats, should I not even bother applying to Stern for economics and stick to the CAS? Does being from NJ help? Do I have any shot at all?

Current College: #1 Associate Degree CC in NJ
College GPA: 3.9 with honors classes and 45 completed credits
SAT scores: 650 math, 490 English (garbage)
High school GPA: graduated through a co-op program, which is probably going to kill my chances. GPA is probably around a 2. (However I was my principal’s all-time favorite student, who I am still in touch with and will write me an outstanding letter of rec.)
job exp: sales rep, personal trainer in a gym, started an online personal training website InHousePT.com (check it out), and am currently a used car buyer for an auto dealer.

Hi, I am currently an undergrad student at Queensborough Comm College. / (A CUNY School) I just finished my 3rd semester and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.3
I am hoping to apply to NYU’s Stienhardt School under the CCTOP program. The question I am asking is regarding my cumulative gpa. I recievd a GED from in 2002 and I attended one semester at Brookdale CC in NJ (I used to live in NY, but my parents went through a divorce and I had to move, so I got my GED and moved to NJ with my mom) I didn’t do so well that semester and a got a bunch of WU’s and 1 B in English 101. That semester is over 5yrs ago and my life is totally different from then until now. After the bad semester at Brookdale, I started working full time and moved back to NYC on my own. When I was turning 21, I realized that although I make decent money, to achieve my dreams I will at least need a BA, so I enrolled in QCC full time. I’m not making excuses, but I made mistakes 5 years ago, I didn’t take college as seriously as I should have, but since being at QCC I’ve had mostly A’s in many of my courses, my GPA suffers at a 3.3 because of a C- in my recent calculus class. Otherwise my transcripts are mostly A’s and B’s. (I am also an Honor’s student here) Will my record at Brookdale severely hamper my chances at NYU despite it being 5 years ago? Please advise

I’d like to briefly weigh in on the discussion concerning CAS’ transfer rate last fall. I was an applicant and I was rejected. I’m not going to be modest: I had very good numbers. I was accepted to several other schools, two of which are typically considered to be harder to transfer into and better than NYU. CAS last year suffered from a problem as the number of internal transfers was far above the usual. Evidently a bunch of freshman applied for other easier colleges and then transferred into CAS; smart move, ended up hurting external transfer applicants. It was reported to us that the transfer rate was 6%, and I believe it. If you look back through the NYU transfer thread from last year, you’ll notice that a relatively small percentage of College Confidential members got into CAS compared to the years before.

Naturally, I don’t know how that will apply or be relevant to the coming app process, but if this internal transfer rush is a new trend, get some backup schools. Bitter? Yes, slightly, but only because I wanted a clean sweep. I’m happily at my first choice. Just wanted you guys to know.

I know for a fact that it isn’t nearly as easy to get into Stern as an internal transfer, but the CAS statistic was still pretty surprising. Apart from brand_182, I don’t recall of any other deserving CC members who weren’t admitted to CAS but some of my personal acquaintances have also been denied admission to CAS as transfers and have made it to places traditionally regarded as being ‘better.’ And the few external transfers I’ve met here definitely had some fine qualifications to be admitted. NYU doesn’t really report much info on transfer stats that I know of, but if it is nearly as competitive as it was last year to get into CAS, good luck to you all!!

Okay so i would just like to know my chances… i am applying for stern i fall '08…i go to my local CC and i am in the honors program. i have a 3.97 gpa and will have my associates in may…my highschool stats are an 3.7/4.0…SAT 1640/2400 (real low)…and i have plent of EC in highschool and at the CC, my rec is awesome and from the dean of bus. I know its slim but honest opinions would be great!!

I am applying to Stern from Villanova’s School of Business as a Sophmore.

I have a 3.73 GPA overall and about 3.9 in the business school with 51 Credits. I take 18 credits a semester and next semester i am taking two upper level finance courses.

In High school my GPA is around a 3.71 or 3.73 unweighted in all honors and aps from a well known private high school.

SATS: 1430 800M 630V
SAT II: 730 US History, 690 Calc IIC

My high school ECs are good. In college I had a good internship last summer at a bank, I am in one club, and I tutor. My teacher recs are going to be really good I have a couple of good relationships with profs. I also have a couple of recs from well-known people in investment banking.

vedder2993 … by taking upper level finance and accounting courses… ur hurting ur chances for admission. Coming from a good business school… that has more opportunities for students to explore like internships etc… Having internship whilst studying in a 4-year school is not a big deal.

I don’t find any reason why NYU must accept you … only if u had a good reason for transferring from Villanova will your chances of getting in look more plausible. I wish if it was better that students like you give a chance to underpriviliged students from Community College like us…

True, coming from a school with the same opportunities will limit your reasons and your “necessity” for transfering, but don’t condemn students that come from universities because you are from a community college and they are “taking your place.” There should be no preference really, and in the end if you manage a very strong GPA at a CC you will have similar opportunities to someone coming from Villanova with a good GPA.

vedder! i’m currently a soph at VSB and am also looking to transfer to stern.

my gpa is mediocre: 3.5
BUT i have interned in marketing for warner bros. in both london and los angeles, write for the villanovan, exec board on ACE.
i had a 4.0 in high school.

I’m thinking about applying to a transfer to Stern as a backup in case I don’t make it into Ross Business School. I’m currently a freshman at U of M.

1st semester was sorta rough, only ended up with a 3.546. I’m expecting to possibly get up in the 3.65 range or so by the end of this semester but I can’t be sure. I’m took 15 credits 1st semester, 18 credits now. I came in with AP credit that averages to roughly 20 credits. I have a 34 on my ACT from highschool and my gpa in high school was a 3.8.
