Tisch Fall 08’
Sophmore Transfer
HS: 3.37 (No AP’s or Honors)
College: 3.57
ACT: taking in february
ECs: internship, founder/president of club, theatre

I’m just going to apply and see what happens. I hope I get a good score on the ACT to boost my academic side. But if I don’t, oh well.

the school just isn’t for me. i did the study abroad in london as a freshman and got a 3.9 that semester. so between home (southern cali) and the heart of london, i just feel terribly out of place on a suburban campus.

your reasons? and i wonder if we know each other. it wouldn’t surprise me. but its kind of creepy that we’re discussing this via message board.

Im a freshman at USC and just finished my fall semester. I unfort didnt do to well and got a 3.25 primarily due to a very hard writing class they have here at usc. Do you think my chances are almost zilch for transferring into nyu? Would it be better, instead of applying to CAS, to apply to Gallatin? Will that be any bettter? I really am desperate in getting out of here and moving to NYC! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

chocola: Steinhardt and Gallatin have very similar acceptance rates, if you want to major in communications, go for Steinhardt. Gallatin only allows you to take a certain number of credits per school with a heavy liberal arts curric.

1cekream: Similar situation as chocola except CAS’s acceptance rates vary within each major. What field do you want to study/are currently studying? Keep in mind that the purpose of Gallatin is to combine several majors into one. You will have a difficult time focusing on one study being that Gallatin has a limit on how many creds can be spent in each school. Depending on the major within CAS, chances may be the same for either school. Sorry to say but a 3.25 is not competitive at all.

Well, I am an undecided major at usc right now, but am looking closely at physics. From what I know, physics is not a very popular major at nyu, or am I mistaken? Yes… I know my GPA is bad…What if I get a 4.0 for my spring mid term grade report , would that help boost my chances?

1cekream - i was wondering the same thing because my 3.5 gpa isn’t too great either compared to what a lot of a other people are reporting. unfortunately i have writing 140 this semester so that basically ends my chances of a 4.0 right there haha. anyways do you know if USC even does midterm grades because i don’t think they have an official system like that. i know when i talked to my advisor in the fall semester she said transcripts are prepared at the end of the semester so i don’t know if we can send official midterm grades. as much as i’m sure they’d like to trust us, i don’t think anything but an official report would suffice at nyu. lemme know if you hear anything about whether we can send midterm grades.

nrochs - Im glad to hear you got a 3.5, that actually isnt too bad coming from USC. Comparatively speaking, if reffering to my own gpa, its pretty darn good infact so I dont think you should be worried. I already emailed my academic advisor, but I have yet to recieve one back from him. Writ 140 really pulled my average down last semester, but hopefully it wont be as bad for you. Which school are you planning to apply to, and what is your intended major?

You can only send Midterm Grade Reports if one of NYU’s admission’s officers request them. There’s a special form and fax number that you need to send them.

Jay 1020 - Prviding that I can get it, cant I just send my mid term grade report along with my appliction as I please? Btw, what is your opinion on CAS’s physics major? would my chances of admissions become higher with a major like that?

1cekream - i’m applying to steinhardt to major in “media, culture, and communication” aka communication lol. let me know what your advisor tells you about midterm grades and good luck with everything! only a few more months, hopefully we both get in!!

Midterm grades are requested by the person who is reviewing your app, the form has their name and number on it, so I’m not sure how you would figure all of that out, get the form and fax it to the correct number. Regarding the physics major, from what I’ve heard, it isn’t as popular as other majors, so technically it could be “easier” to get into, but I don’t condone applying to a major for the sake of just getting in.

ok guys, i just sent in my app for Steinhardt. im so nervous.
My GPA at Penn State University Park Campus: 3.6 (made Deans list)
my HS GPA: 3.8
SAT: Math 640, CR 600 Writing 710.
SATII Math L1: 660, French: 660, Chemistry: 670
Plenty of EC’s and AP’s
My essay and short answers are pretty strong.
any thoughts about my acceptance?
pray for me!!! i cant wait.

Hey guys what do you think my chances are for CAS (Econ major)
Polytechnic University (Primarily an engineering school)
GPA 3.55
SAT: 1280/1600
Deans list past two semester (out of three)
Collegiate Baseball
A few clubs relating to management

Hi, thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and ask people to evaluate my chances too.

I’m an international student, freshman, and I’m looking to transfer to Gallatin for Fall 08.

College: Smith College
GPA: 3.63
SAT: 1440/1600
SATII: Lit 750 W History 670
HS GPA: B B D under the A Levels

EC: in college, student government and several dance groups, but not really active now. I was a lot more active in high school: exco of drama club, president of history society.

Also, about teacher recommendations - is it alright to ask high school teachers for recommendation or will that reflect badly on me? Because the term just started and I don’t know my professors well enough to ask them for a recommendation.

Can anybody who successfully transfered also give tips? Thanks!

People have been mentioning that Tisch is one of the hardest schools to get into - how selective is it exactly? I’m wondering right now if I should even bother applying.

Do they place more emphasis on the artistic aspect of your application than on strict academics? I have a fairly low GPA due to problems with anxiety (though I do attend a top LAC), and I didn’t participate into many ECs in college, so right now my chances are looking pretty dismal…

DollyHaze: I know for freshman admission it is 50/50 academics and artistic review. However, it is to my understanding that for transfers the individual schools handle all the applications, so that ratio might be different. I know it is very competitive, but that shouldn’t discourage you from applying if it is what you want. Note: If you are still considering it, I would make up your mind quickly. There are a limited number of audition times left in late March. You want to give yourself enough time to prepare for the audition, good luck!
