NYU 2008 Transfer

Knowing that the decisions are coming soon makes me even more anxious. Hopefully, finals next week will take my mind off of it.

you have finals already?
im still on Spring break

chance me for CAS

current university: stonybrook SUNY
GPA: 3.3 GPA
ECs: pretty much nothing special

 • Math Tutor in high school and college
 • part-time paramedic

High school: FDR, a school in NYC, not particularly good anyway
GPA: VERY LOW 2.1 GPA i had no idea how I got in Stony with that low average it was my reach
ECs: Vice president of a chinese club in senior year
treasurer of the same club junior year
handball team from sophomore year to senoir year

SATs are pretty *hity except math:
800 Math
510 critical reading
490 writing

retake in senior year for fun:
800 Math<— i like math
550 cr
500 writing

still low overall

SAT IIs:

 • MATH II: 790
 • Biology: 560
 • US History: 670

Major: economics

essays are okay, i just wrote whatever i feel about

personal statements has pretty embarassing things but thats okay, i dont really care much anyway, my scores are soo low

chances? not like i really want to go that much but i like to know about anything

is econ at nyu even worth doing if u cant get in stern? (get overlooking during recruiting, etc)

ill tell yoou this you still got a better chance than me i have a 3.25 and a slightly lower sat and a 0.0 highschool gpa

just to tell you, I am a sophomore applying for junior status (51 credits done) and currently taking 18 credits worth of courses

was pre-med, not anymore now
currently economics and pol. sci. double major
As in all math courses
A- –> B- in liberal arts courses
some Bs and Cs in some science courses (formerly pre-med)

i dont think my high school grades count that much since i am in my second year

i hate the “chance me” for nyu because from my experience, they are sometimes random. who knows. its gonna be tough with a 3.3 for sure, but if you have kick ass essays/ recs might go your way.

anyone else hear from CAS?

i forgot to mention i also volunteer in the open house, freshman orientation, and some park cleaning events sponsored by the school

i am a member of some business club as a “committee head” (really does nothing but sounds good anyway)

kick ass essay? i dont have one. one of my friends who check it was laughing when she read it. i didnt even put any great effort either to impress the admin people

i confess to k1man, i actually inflated my gpa. it is 3.28 exact. still higher than yours but not particularly. you have more than 80 credits anyway so i dont think your less than 0 gpa in hs will count.

which hs did you go to btw?

I heard from CAS yesterday, so you guys should hear soon too! Good luck!

LastHeadline, as long you show you a good fit to their program and the school overall you will be admitted. Your academics are not as excellent as many others but many students with excellent grades (4.0 GPA) were rejected before. In fact, there was a student before on the NYU webpage on this website (not this thread) that was accepted into Yale but not NYU. Notice that NYU admissions website stated that NYU admission officers are not just looking for great academics but also very motivated in their interests. After all, what drives us to our goals are our interests. If you show them the criteria they are looking for a NYU student (not necessary academic), there will be nothing that will stop you from rejecting you.

Also, according to the NYU Admissions bulletin board your high school grades indeed are not taken in consideration as much as your college grades. This does not meant they do not see your high school grades, however.

If you dont mine me asking Sprial45, were you rejected or accepted?

The wait for Stern to send out letters is killing me. Keeps distracting me from finals.

I feel the same way epiper, i have a paper to write and im so distracted from the wait for the letters.

Lastheadline, I went to francis lewis in queen

I had a 59 average and somehow got into baruch (still wondering how)

also, how is your gpa inflated?

now that I think about it, im pretty sure im getting rejected. A copy of my hs transcript has rows and rows of “55’s”, and a “65” every here and there.

Not to mention i failed a class in my current college freshmen year, but made it up in order to replace the F

but then again, I know someone with the same gpa as me in my college to who in

k1man, yup finals are next week for me. My college has 14 week semesters. How many weeks does your college have?

16 or 17,

i have finals in the middle of May

which is a bummer because nyu wont be able to see this semester’s transcript, i think im getting a 3.8
