Wow, that’s an interesting offer…why not, as long as I am accepted to NYU :)

Epiper, hope you get in too but don’t you dare take my space!! :)

I’m confused because last year there were about 5400 applicants to NYU and CAS was said to have a 6% acceptance rate. This year the number went down to 4250, and CAS still had a lower acceptance rate? That would mean everyones applying to CAS lol…I’m kind of skeptical about these new figures until someone has actual confirmation from the admissions office.

Hoping I’m right for all of us. lol

xferjhcn: My acceptance letter says “This year’s class was selected from an astonishingly diverse pool of over 4,250 applicants,” so the 4,250 figure is correct.

As for CAS’s old acceptance rate, the 6% rate was echoed by several people last year. It is impossible to state a new rate because not all decisions have been made and these statistics are never published–it’s just hearsay.

yea, I guess it would seem that this year would be easier though considering a decrease of over 1000 applicants. Oh well, I guess we’ll all find out soon enough.

i just got an email from nyu saying i could go as long as i spend the first semester in prague. i saw the person post about the florence option, but i’m going to call tomorrow to get more information about all of this. i applied to CAS and they said they got 1800 applications for 70 spots. i’m assuming they admitted like 100, so thats about 5.5%.

what a curve ball

yeah man i got into the prague program too, i’m gonna do it, but it said that its first come first serve or something, does it mean that we’re in or not? i responded as soon as i got the email and i got the confirmation but i didnt get that other emial they were talking about

Yeah I think NYU has a huge freshman class this year so thats probably why they don’t have enough spots for transfers. Transfers that would’ve usually been accepted in previous years were given a new option of studying abroad for one year before continuing in the New York City campus. I guess the choices are either Florence or Prague. Does this actually count as an acceptance?

well! there goes any glimmer of hope i had. i shall await my rejection letter in the coming weeks. but knowing that the odds were 70/1800 do make me feel a bit better, although those numbers ARE disgusting.

I would say it means an acceptance! Obviously, they wouldn’t offer it to someone they would want to reject!

BTW ,I’m from the Czech Republic (Prague capital) so I definately recommend going there. It’s a beautiful city!!! And people speak English there no problem :)

Has anyone had a midterm report request?
If so how does it work?
do they mail it through mail or email?
and do you fill it out and your professors sign off on it?

Thanks

A lot of students apply to Gallatin, or Steinhardt because they are seen as easier to get into than CAS during freshman round. These people then internally transfer to CAS after being accepted. This causes two things

Thats why CAS is so hard.

i should have applied for steinhardt and then transfer, again, into CAS.

did anyone get a “non-going abroad” acceptance packet today?

OB did you get a midterm grade request? Here’s what an admissions adminastrator wrote today about mid term grade requests today on NYUs board:

Whether or not we ask for mid-term grades depends upon a number of factors. The most common situation is for a student who is applying for sophomore transfer who only has completed one semester of college at the time of the application. In other caaes, the reviewer may simply want to see the applicant’s latest work, particularly if the courses in progress are going to be transferred as courses in the student’s major field of study.

CollegeHam
no I never got one requested.
did you?

Nahh, I haven’t gotten one either.

70 spots this year? crazy!

It’s hard to believe that. I wonder how many open spots are in Stern…

That’s baloney - there is no way that there are only 70 spots in all of CAS. i bet there are more spots available at stern than that. baloney, i say.

70 spots in CAS. read before you post, please. =]
