Hi,

I have noticed that many people here inquire about sending in Midterm Grade Reports, and NYU generally only requires these reports when they specifically ask an applicant.

Would you be able to shed some light as to why some students are asked to provide Midterm Grade Reports and why others aren’t?

Whether or not we ask for mid-term grades depends upon a number of factors. The most common situation is for a student who is applying for sophomore transfer who only has completed one semester of college at the time of the application. In other caaes, the reviewer may simply want to see the applicant’s latest work, particularly if the courses in progress are going to be transferred as courses in the student’s major field of study.

I applied to scps as a transfer student for sophmore status. I never received a request for a mid term grade report. Is that normal?
thank you for your time!

We do not request midterm grades for every applicant. No one should read anything into receiving such a request, nor should you make any assumptions about NOT receiving a request. Many of our staff have been out on recruiting visits (for us, it is already next year!), so it may simply be that your application has not been reviewed as yet.

…yeah softy, read before you post please

:-P no hard feelings

Okay, so considering that NYU’s retention rate is 92%, and that there are 2300 Stern Undergraduates, I would estimate that there are approximately 185 spots open for admission. This is the target they are shooting for. I would assume that Stern’s retention rate is higher and therefore it has a lower number of spots available. I would guess that there are around 150 spots available and with over 1000 applicants. These are just based on guesses and assumptions. I couldn’t find any substantial information and I didn’t want to dig into the NYU thread from last year so late at night.

now that sounds more accurate to me.

there are about 100 transfer spots open for stern this year. i won’t say my source, so you either believe me or you don’t. and i don’t know if that includes internals or not :D

remember that yield was crazy last year.

what’s easier to get into cas or steinhardt for psych?

Stern’s retention rate was higher than I expected then I guess…hahahaha. So I’m guessing the retention rate for Stern was around 96%. What do you think the rate they’re shooting for transfers? 125 would mean 80%…

so i go to stevens institute of technology and i am applying as a jr transfer this fall to stern. what do you guys think of this situation?

in order to get into stevens you need to have an interview. The lady that interviewed and accepted me into stevens left to work at nyu to be a sr admissions counselor at stern.

I call the admissions office every now and then to check my application status since it still has not been complete. But it was such a big coincidence that the lady that i’ve been keeping touch with about my application is the same lady from stevens. but she probably doesnt remember me since she had to handle thousands of other students in stevens.

Is this a bad or good situation? did she leave stevens because something with the school or did she leave stevens because she knew nyu was better? i wonder if she’ll have any bad grudges over here that will affect my chances

Does anyone hear from NYU, esp Steinhardt??

Chocla. Not yet I live in Queens so hopefully it gets here soon.
I applied to steinhardt under the cctop program

jverzosa: Not at all. If I were you, I would tell her that you’ve met before and that you actually interviewed with her if the interview went well. It must’ve been well considering you were accepted, and it’s basically like a=b so b=a; she interviewed you at Stevens so it’s almost like she interviewed you for Sterns. It can’t hurt unless, as aforementioned, your interview wasn’t good. Don’t harass the adcoms, though, because if they get your name they can log calls/contact.

chocola: Yes, quite a few students have heard back from NYU. A Steinhardt student was accepted a while ago on this thread. Don’t bother looking for it because she deleted it for privacy reasons.

They log calls?

Accepted! Tisch - Film/TV!

Congrats Marty!

did anybody hear from their financial aid office? I got in a while ago and am supposed to reply by next week, but I haven’t heard anything about financial aid yet…I’ll have to ask for an extension or something…

I got a midterm grade request. They want it faxed into their office by May 9th. But my semester just ended and my teachers have until May 9th to post their grades so my official transcript will not be available until probably after May 9th. But I can send in an unofficial one as soon as all my teachers post their grades. I responded to the email to explain my situation. If I don’t hear back from her on monday, I guess I’ll have to call the office.

Does anyone know what it means when they are trying to get your mid-term grades
In my case, I’m applying as a Junior to Steinhardt under an articulation agreement w/ Queensborough CC. I have a 3.4 GPA after 50 credits and my grades this semester are 4 A’s and 1 A- (my school is already going into finals when they asked for my midterm grades so my professors told me those are the likely grades i’ll reiceve in the class altogether)

Does it mean they couldn’t make a decision on your app? Or you’re like a borderline rejection? I’ve seen that rumor floating around here. Just hoping for clarification. Thanks!

I think its actually because they arent sure and they would like to see your midterm grades because if they’re good enough they might put you over the top and if not then theyll be able to reject you. Thats my perception at least.

However, receiving a midterm grade report is nothing but good news because it means they are still interested in your application.
