NYU 2008 Transfer

oh i forgot to mention that im a sophomore who is trying to transfer to to CAS for the spring 08 semester. i wont post my stats yet cause i dont want to know my chances.

lol ignorance is bliss ;)

thats how im thinking of it! cause why worry myself over something that only the admissions committee can tell me. and does anyone what i do once i get my university id number??

obviously minorty status doesnt break or make your application. i did not say that. i was merely stating that i read somewhere that being asian can work against you in some way, and i think we can all know that that “someway” is not major.

im applying fall 08 to CAS as a sophmore.

WOW,so many people are considering to transfer to NYU..

something like 5,000 (more or less, please correct me if im wrong, this is just the number i remember off the top of my head) people apply as trasfers.

Im in my third yr at a comm college(because I ruined my first yr grades), and looking to transfer to UCI as a psych major (but still undecieded). People tell me differ things such as, Do IGETC and complete some courses from assist.org, or do the agreement with UCI. Is there anyone who can give me advice on whether I should be worried or not if its my 3rd yr?? And also, what % of applicants does UCI accept?? Thanks.

yea…this is the NYU thread…

RS20, ask this in the UC transfer forum.

the only time its acceptable to ask for your chances at a school, is when you are considering not applying.

so if you ask people and everyone tells you your chances are damn near impossible, then might as well not waste the application fee :)

I’m going through this dilemma.

I dont know if I should bother applying to NYU

Iranian/female
California Community College GPA : 3.8

High School GPA: 2.8
SAT I: 1520/2400, low SAT II also.

I’ve also taken 2 courses at UC Berkeley
Upper Division Social Theory: A+
Introduction to the Middle East: A

(this should prove my As in community college weren’t bulsit)

Extracurriculars:
Percussion Instruments (I’ve performed at UC Berkeley, Weddings, etc)
Table Tennis Club

not paid for it, but i take care of my brother who is disabled (family responsibility).

do you guys think i will be forgiven for my really crappy high school record and SAT scores, given my stats in college?

I feel as though everyone else who is applying had great SAT scores and high school GPA…and I’m new to the “trying in school” thing.

would i be wasting money by applying? its just my SAT that I feel will throw my chances out the window for sure.

academic:

My scores: 1400/2400
HS GPA: 3.0

College: 3.81
BSU Honors College
Dean’s List
Writing Center Tutor
SWIMBA trail reporter
Work experience

I am applying  College GPA is far more important that any high school stuff.

thanks for reply. its just i hope that they dont say “well if the transfer applicant doesnt have at least 1600, then lets not waste our time” lol

Why would they? Especially for transfer students.

still, i feel overall very weak compared to all the students that will apply with great high school AND college records.

:/

If you don’t get in, there is always undergrad to make all nice and shiny, and then grad applications to impress people with your undergrad record ;)

Who has outstanding records that you feel worried about?

if our high school gpa is real low, and our college one is pretty good, is the big gap better than having a high gpa in high school and college?

Most likely not, modern. They like the most qualified student in general. So, whoever has good everything will probably have the best chance. That is considering that they write a good essay, have decent EC’s and all of the other things they take into account in admissions.

yeah its hard to say cause they claim to like improvement, but…i dont know how far that goes.

hopefully my essay and ec’s are strong enough, i feel real nervous now.

5000 people…

I am consider Stern, but it is so hard and I am an international…become harder…
