Uhh I was waitlisted for CAS. Any of you guys know how the waitlisting works? What are my chances :[

what are your stats?

3.7ish
2080 SAT, 800 Math 2, 780 Physics, 680 Bio
EC: an internship or two, not too great
Essay: very good

Uhh anything I’m missing?

I dunno mate–as far as I know, waitlisting is a difficult art. They want you to be involved–e.g. send new grades–but they also seem to be easily annoyed when students really push their position. Your stats certainly seem in tune with all those that have already been admitted–I would be surprised if you weren’t taken off the waitlist, as I know two of my friends who were admitted to CAS and Stern and are declining the offer.

Eesh doesn’t sound like a good position to be in. Thanks a lot though! Appreciate the help. I was wondering though if you knew if NYU reconsiders after I send in new grades? As in is being waitlisted just basically accept if space allows or do they take the space then take all the waitlist-ees and redo the admission process? I’m hoping it’s already mapped out because my spring grades are falling a bit low…

I’m pretty sure it depends on the application. For instance, I think you would probably be among those that are admitted as soon as currently admitted kids decline; for GPA’s that are on the fence, however, I think they wait for final grades and complete a pretty substantial overhaul of the application as a whole. Your stats seem pretty good, so I can’t imagine that they would need to re-review your application. The only thing I would suggest is highlight some other EC’s–maybe sending a letter or something, but nothing too big/obnoxious. Just give a quick update of what you have been involved with over the course of the last semester.

Ohh okay sounds like a good idea. I’ll try to get on that. Thanks!

did you guys who already got admitted decide to go to NYU already?? or still think about it??

im still thinking…

I’m going. Don’t know about anyone else…

wmplax…which school did you get accepted??

Gallatin. What about you?

Steinhardt communication, but I am still thinking.

What are the other options?

other options??..UVa..and im still waiting for the decision from Brandeis.

i sent in my deposit

Screw UVa, and Brandeis? I’m dissapointed in you, chocola, very dissapointed…

Oh, and one fun/unusual fact: Dante, while writing the Divine Comedy, was going in between a frozen sea and Brandeis for the 9th circle of hell. Just an FYI.

wmplax..why were you disappointed in me??
(frankly, i dont havemuch information about uva and brandeis cuz iam an intl student.)

Where are you from?

Hey Chocola,
I go to UVA now and applied to Tisch, but got rejected. I will most likely be attending Wesleyan in the fall. UVA is beautiful, the professors are wonderful if you are in the right classes, some of the people can fit the stereotypical frat-sorority scene pretty easily (although definitely not everyone, and anyone can find the right group of people there). I say this as someone who did not want to go to UVA mostly because of the stereotypes that went along with it, but here I am, loving my friends, and leaving, sadly, because UVA doesn’t offer the major that I want. Some programs here are excellent, depending on what you want to study. It’s a big school and there are tons of things to do within the school as well as Charlottesville to back it up. Private message me with specific questions. I know it must be tough not knowing anything about a school.

Sasha
*EDIT: I just saw that you wanted to do communications. What aspect of communications? What did you apply for at UVA?
