how can i be a business major without applying to stern or gallatin?

haha, didnt you already ask that?

yea but i didnt really get an answer

modernage13: Yes. You can Apply to CAS, major in economics, and enter the pre-business concentration–you choose this concentration after you get accepted and talk to your nyu dean/guidance.

so i can be a finance major??

well i just called the admissions office and they said they got all my materials! but the lady said to expect a decision mid december. isnt it mid november??

Nope, it’s December.

BTW - How many emails are you supposed to receive? I got one with a temporary ID, but that was it. They said in the email that there is too much mail coming in to see what I may be missing.

How many emails has everyone else received?

i got 4 emails, the last being one telling my temp ID. I was worried that the lady was indicating i might be rejected by saying a later month. but since its december guess i gotta wait longer…

hi! I’m moving to New York next summer and I’m planning to transfer to NYU - Stern (Fall 2008). I’m currently completing my second semester at a CC in Florida. I’m taking all possible classes in order to meet NYU’s requirements, but my problem is with Calculus. I’m currently taking College Algebra, and next semester I will be able to take only Pre Calculus. I called Admissions the other day and the guy (who wasn’t very nice at all) told me that if I hadn’t taken Calculus by the time I applied, I wouldn’t be offered admission. May that be true? Would I have to wait one more year to apply if I didn’t take that one class?

You will not be accepted as it is a prerequisite for Stern. Stern by the way is very tough to transfer to as is Tisch so they have no reason to accept someone who does not even meet their requirements to apply.

are there any scholarships out there for NYU?

Thanks for your reply morgoth. I know you are right, for all that i read so far, stern is very selective for transfer students…but I had to ask anyways because that is the only required class I would not be able to take on time, and I wouldn’t want to wait one more year to apply just because of that one class…but i guess I have no choice!
btw which other universities in NY (preferably manhattan) do you guys recommend worth applying to? I’m moving next year and I really need to transfer but I don’t know much about any of them (I came to the US as an international student). I heard about CUNY, but I’m not very convinced yet.
Thanks a lot!!

well fordham is in the bronx thats close.

is fordham better than CUNY?

i think so. not 100 percent sure though

Yeah it is better IMO. I guess it depends on what you want to study. Neither one though comes close to NYU. It kinda sucks that the only truly good research universities in NYC are NYU and Columbia. There are a lot of good schools for certain majors though. Cooper Union, Julliard, ect.

if you want to get into business when comparing fordham and cuny (baruch), i’d go with baruch…unless you need to dorm

Thank you guys for your replies!
I’ve always wanted to live & study in NYC, and my main target has always been NYU. I came from South America two years ago and I’ve been working hard in order to meet all the requirements, while working full time and dealing with some other issues, etc., so I can’t deny that it ****es me off a little bit that because of that one calculus class i would have to wait (and waste) one more year in order to apply. But I suppose I’m not the only one and there are many students like me in the same situation. I think i will end up applying to Baruch and when the time comes, apply to Stern. Although I’m not sure if it’s going to look very nice if they see that I’ve been trnsfering around.
btw, I’m planning to double major in accounting and finance.
thanks!

oops i can’t write Pis*s off ! sorry haha
