NYU 2008 Transfer

Nope, St. John’s. I was surprised, too, but he’s already completed 60 credits and he was rejected ED as a freshman, a second time as a transfer during his first year, and tried one last time. After 60 credits you don’t have to send your SAT scores fyi, and his GPA was above average. He’s definitely one of the most motivated individuals I’ve ever met, though. This was a really good year for transfers actually. I’ve heard of some other pretty low stats getting into otherwise exclusive majors like CAS econ.

Hi everyone…who’s transfering to NYU from this summer ??? (who’s starting June 29th)

My friend, actually he’s my boyfriend, actually squeezed an answer out of the lady on the phone. He surprised me later that night. She said I should expect good news. But my netid doesn’t work yet.

Your boyfriend called up NYU and was like “my girlfriend’s NYU ID is N______, what’s her application status”?

did anyone who was accepted recieve a lot of credit that fulfilled major requirements? they gave me mostly elective credit

Join the NYU Transfer Group! We’ll be planning events for transfer students to meet one another soon :)

-Andrew

P.S. Congratulations!!!

Easy-No he pretended he’s my father. BTW I’m gay so he could have also pretended he was me.

Lol, Trojans. That’s adorable. Reminds me of when we had our friends take turns calling us out sick back in HS.

Does anybody know if this:

Applies for Gallatin applicants? One would assume not, but it doesn’t say anything. Hmm.

I can’t find anything on Gallatin prereqs.

Olives–I applied to Gallatin and submitted only my SAT I scores; I don’t think the SAT really comes into play when deciding on transfers, especially if you are applying for junior standing. I think a lot of schools are seeing how Collegeboard acts primarily as a corporation, and that the criticisms of the SAT are as pronounced as they are legitimate–still, if it says to submit them, might as well if you have good scores.

Petersreid–my transfer credits knocked out all the requirements within Gallatin, so I have nothing left but elective courses within my concentration.

My SAT I scores are OK, about the avg for NYU according to collegeboard. I just simply haven’t taken any SAT IIs, and don’t really want to have something more to worry about over the summer. On top of that, I can’t see myself doing really well in any of the subjects but the lit one, but if it’s a must… Or even if it will just increase my chances. IDK.

What are the requirments within Gallatin? And, if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your major/concentration?

Thanks for the help. :)

Requirements within Gallatin include 2 courses of the humanities; 2 courses of social sciences; 1 math/science course; and then a couple writing seminars. My concentrations will be:

Political Science
Journalism
Sociology
Literature

I am entering as a sophomore (I just completed my freshman year), but, through AP credit and the fact that I took 7 courses a semester at my previous institution, I’ve fulfilled all the Gallatin reqs. and have nearly complete all of Poli Sci and Sociology reqs. It’s going to be a fun 3 years at NYU–I’m focusing on independent study and internships to fill my time. Oh, and parties.

Oh, I already have that covered then. Awesome.

We have sort of the same interests. I want to go for writing, literature, journalism, and parties. Mainly writing. I know Gallatin’s great for that, and you would take most classes at CAS, correct? Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, I’ll see you around sometime next year. I think I’m going to apply to for spring admission of 09 when I’ll have, give or take 62, credits (and if all goes well, I’ll still have my 4.0) by the end of my fall semester. I have such a *****ty HS record though (seriously, like a ~2.0). If I have more than 60 credits though with decent SATs and a strong courseload it won’t matter so much, right, RIGHT? Oh God, I’m driving myself nuts in this thread.

“Easy-No he pretended he’s my father. BTW I’m gay so he could have also pretended he was me.”

trojans-- Whoops, I guess I’m presumptuous then.

Olives–Yeah, I’ll be taking most classes in CAS, though I will also be taking 1 or 2 at Stern and then a couple interdisciplinary seminars at Gallatin. I was thinking of taking a class in Tisch just from the standpoint that I really like Richard Schechner’s work with performativity and wouldn’t mind incorporating that into a literature/sociology paper.

My hs record wasn’t good either–relatively low, but I had a lot of significant EC’s. I entered college a year early at an Ivy, but then was “asked to leave.” So I went to a larger school and did pretty well, and now I’ll be entering NYU on par with my age group (I just turned 19 today, actually).

Are you a guy or girl? Do you have a facebook?

anybody going to stern next semester? it’s so expensive and i’m getting little financial aid. so i was just wondering if stern really offers a lot of great job opportunities compared to good schools in more rural areas, like northwestern, u mich and dartmouth? thanks!

Anyone know if GPA transfers from one institution to another? I know credit does, but I can’t imagine GPA will…

Has anyone get off the waitlist?

Fun fact: if anyone watches/has heard of the MTV show “The Paper” (my sister watches it–I don’t), apparently the main girl from that show will be attending NYU in the fall. Also, she is apparently the least-cool, most-annoying character on the show. I’m not sure how to feel about this.

Being called the most annoying character on an MTV show is like being called the most perverted child molester in the world.

It’s funny how easy and I were thinking the exact same thing. Except I was about to go with “smartest kid riding the short bus”, but I’m liking the analogy.

I’ve heard of it. It’s like the real world with a newspaper thrown right in there. Crazy stuff man. I haven’t watched though so I wouldn’t know much about the characters. I wouldn’t sweat it though, there are bound to be a decent number of cool people out of the howmanythousand kids attending.

So you can take your classes at any school you want? That’s awesome, I was just worried that I would show up to register for CAS classes and get the bait and switch. If I get in of course. I hate not knowing.

I know, but my HS stuff was really dreadful. Possibly a record low for College Confidential. I was in the bottom 50 of 700, with virtually no ECs, I didn’t take my SATs until my first year of college, and I had to go to summer school just to graduate. My counselors keep telling me with >60 credits it won’t matter at all, but I’m worried this is just too much of a trainwreck to be overlooked. On the other hand it gives me an interesting angle, and Gallatin’s more predisposed to like a student like me. Positive thinking ftw.

I’m a guy, and I don’t. My generation left me in the dust. As soon as I get one though, I’ll join the NYU hopeful group.
