I have some pretty mediocre high school grades, I went to the Baltimore School for the Arts, and I have a strong visual arts portfolio. I’m a good writer and can write a damn good essay. I’m trying for a 4.0 this sem. Also, I’ve interned at an architecture firm, play varsity sports, and have interned/worked at a public media center in inner city Baltimore for a few years, organizing youth programs, editing and shooting video, and putting together cable access TV shows. References abound.
Here’s some art:

My last ACT score was 26, but I’m going to try it again.
Do you think I have a shot?

Stern might not accept Senior year transfers as they require you to complete 2 years there. I think they don’t. Although I would suggest taking it during the summer before you intend to enroll. I think if you do this you might be able to transfe there after all (although it will be tough Stern is teh crazy and transferring to Tisch is so rare it is amazing).

I am also thinking of transferring for fall of 08 or 09 Well since I want to go to Gallatin or Steinhardt (CAS looks good to im so wishy washy) I would say that what draws me to Gallatin is the freedom to create your own academic program. Gallatin is good for students who are self motivated and are ready to take charge of their college education. CAS is like a tradtional college with majors and minors. Well I think it’s about the same since Gallatin gets fewer applicants but has fewer spaces. Also Gallatin likes strong writers and so your essay will count more I bet. CAS is more about numbers or seems to be.

I am very interested in transferring to NYU in the fall of 2008.

I had horrible high school records… My Sats are: Verbal-670 Math- 590 Writing- 610

I’ve changed my work ethic in college, am attending a local community college. I will have 30+ credits by the end of spring 2008. I expect my gpa to be no less than 3.8, through this portion of the fall semester it is easily 4.0. I love the idea of going to school in NYC.. my major would be along the biological sciences or pre-med if they offer it, applying to the CAS. What do you guys think of my chances?

Edit- I am also president of the pre-med/allied health club here at my CC.

Modern, I think GPA holds a lot of influence. Do you mean high school GPA or college GPA? Obviously, they both matter a lot.

I will be able to pull of a 3.7+ but I was wondering about other things NYU wants to see besides good grades? I work on campus, I tutor young children in spanish, I am going to work in an Autistic House next semester with autistic children, and I am in two clubs on campus.

Ahhhh, this is so nerve wrecking! I hope we all get in!

To get into Gallatin you basically have to have your major planned out. And at Gallatin you create your own major. I heard that someone majored in happiness once. haha. but anyway, it is for people who are self-driven and know what they want to do. Gallatin students can take classes in all of the schools except Tisch I think. Have you gone to the NYU website and read about it??

edit: though unlikely. everyone i know who transferred from baruch to stern had scores ranging from 1250-1500 (with sophomores scoring scoring higher). it does depend whether you are a sophomore or junior transfer. however, scores do count no matter how long you’ve been in college. many people dismiss this fact. a high score will always help tremendously.

maybe you can prove to the committee that you are capable of handling the subject well in which you’ve performed poorly (i.e. verbal if thats the case). perhaps you can get an english professor to write a good letter of recommendation mentioning your great writing talents? its just an idea…
