NYU 2008 Transfer

I know it’s a fairly low GPA, but I really hope that they will take into account culture shock, new school environment etc. when looking at my app. I’m also planning to get a few teacher recommendations.

Anyway, if I fail to transfer for Spring 2009, I could always try again after sophomore year.

Again,

DOes anyone know if STERN takes many transfers ? and does it help if u were waitlisted when u applied as a freshman while in HS ?

somebody plz reply

som1–yes, Stern does take transfer, but the rates of admission seems to be extremely low, especially for the fall-application-spring-acceptance period. Being waitlisted shouldn’t matter; still, you should have improved your grades/extracurriculars/SAT since being waitlisted–otherwise, I think it could hurt you.

****, dam it , oh well thank you anyway

oh wait, i thought u couldnt take the SAT again once u were in college, and even if u do they disregard it???

som1- You can take your SAT’s again, but there not going to look at it anyways. So your just wasting your money taking it again.

iacmynad-If you get rejected for spring 2009, you have to wait a full year until you can apply again.

thank you for clearing that up nyu44

nyu44,

What kind of things could I try doing next semester to help my app? I’m going to apply to NYU as soon as possible, and get as many teacher recommendations as I can. I know my grades weren’t fantastic, but could I get some helpful advice?

Rejected from waitlist :[.

Does anyone know if I can appeal the waitlist? Or maybe appeal for spring admit or something?

iacmynad, i suggest you write a really good essay and make sure your fall grades are really good, cause they make look at it. That’s all I can suggest for you.

iacmynad:

I sorta have to agree with nyu44–I doubt many admissions personnel will really appreciate the “ankle” excuse, despite how accurate it may or may not be. A really, really strong essay, accompanied by stellar grades–we’re talking a 4.0–in the fall, might equal success, but a 3.2 GPA is hard to ignore. Also, stronger extracurriculars would help–have you started any clubs/organizations? Have you played professionally?

Generally, even an excuse like the death of a family member would be hard to validate that sorta performance; and, since there are many, many international students in American university’s that excell, it is also hard to make the argument that it was a “change” thing (plus, a great deal of American students go out of state–if you are moving from the north to the south, for instance, that is arguably a continental change. No offense to southern students.). Pushing that excuse may seem a bit desperate–I probably wouldn’t focus on it too much. Mention it, certainly, but don’t dwell on it.

Are there any other schools you might be leaning towards?

Hello
i am interested in possibly transferring to NYU. I will be going to a community college for one year and was wondering what classes or what kind of classes I should take. I hope to transfer as a sophomore, and i am taking classes that meet the USC transfer requirements. Is there any difference in the classes i should take if i wish to transfer to NYU? Thank You.

Guys i dont anyone well at NYU. i’ll be happy to know anyone. anyway add me on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=1197888830</a></p>

hey anyone going to july 15-16 orientation? do u guys know if we bring family? or do we go alone?

Does anybody who transferred into Stern live or work in the city? The reason I ask is because I work right in midtown-I’ve been meeting and keeping in touch with people who go to NYU all summer, and I’d love to talk to somebody who successfully transferred about the whole process as I’ll be applying for Fall 09’.

When do we find out about housing?

Go to your nyuhome and go into academics and sign in. On the right hand side, you can check your bills. Check out what they have billed you for and your dorm will be listed there if you have been assigned already. (I got Lafayette)

When we go to the bill, it has deducted the housing cost. When I called, they said it looked like Gramercy Green but they won’t confirm anything! Very frustrating!

Wow! You are lucky because that is a really nice dorm.

Well its great if it really happens! But it STILL isnt showing up on the bill!
