NYU 2008 Transfer

How did you change it? I tried to change it but they wouldn’t let me.

“iacmynad-If you get rejected for spring 2009, you have to wait a full year until you can apply again.”

Are you sure about that? I’ve been looking for it on the website everywhere, but can’t find anything.

I called and ask about it because I apply for fall 2008 and got rejected so I ask them if i could apply for spring and they told me i had to wait a full year to re apply.

Hmm. That’s kind of dissapointing. Are you sure that’s for each school though?

has anybody heard of a limit for number of times applied? i was told that after 2 applications, the school won’t look at any further attempts at gaining admissions.

i’ve applied both from HS and after freshman year in college, and made it neither time, so i want to try one last time for next fall. i really hope that there isn’t any such policy, or i’m afraid i’ll have to dream of somewhere else to go.

Hi everybody . I’m enrolled in a public university in NY (Baruch College) and I intend to apply as a transfer to NYU’s Stern next year . please answer a couple of my questions ..

1 . What time should I be applying ? i know NYU Stern doesn’t accept 2nd semester transfer and only sophomore transfers , so am i supposed to apply around the same time as I did when I was a senior in high school ?

2 . How hard is it getting in ? What would I be needing .. HS GPA , College GPA , courses (i’m taking micro eco and calculus atm ) , and will I need other credentials such as volunteer/work?

will it increase my chances if i apply without financial aid ?

stats :

hs gpa : 3.7
SATs : low reading, 1890
a lot of volunteer and internship w/ recommendation letters ..

should i take a higher calculus course next semester ? do I also send in SAT/ SAT 2 scores ? thanks a lot in advance

these questions are best answered by the admissions officers. check out their NYU admissions forum. if the higher calculus course is required for admissions, you should take it. transfers are not required to send in SAT/ SAT II scores but if they are good, send them. your SAT looks decent but remember that admission officers look at the math, reading, and writing scores separately rather than total them up.

i applied for financial aid and still got in. after all they dont know how much your family/you make(s) until you apply for it and send your FAFSA.

i have 15 ap credits from high school and i read that stern requires 30-32 credits? do those 15 ap credits count towards the 30-32?

im not so sure but i think they meant 32 credits to be taken. you have to ask the admission officers on the web or by phone.
NYU advisors mostly encourage students, including me, to skip the lower levels and advance to higher ones if AP credit it taken. you have to look at the major program requirements. btw students outside of Stern can only take up to 16 credits (4-5 courses) in Stern.

What are good standings in terms of GPA and courses that have to be taken in order to be considered a strong transfer applicant for NYU’s stern school of business?

The problem is that my first year at my current public college is very liberal, and I’m currently taking microeconomics and calculus, but I do not think I can take their other required courses such as financial accounting, managerial accounting. Is it possible to enroll in courses at another university for these classes?

If anyone who got accepted as a transfer to nyu stern this year, please post your stats, it’ll be very helpful !

Hi everyone. I’m finding some great advice on here, not just NYU specific but for transfer things in general. This is seriously the only and best site I’ve found that goes in depth into what it’s like to transfer. I’m wondering if someone could please help me out and give me some advice on my situation and if I stand a chance at getting into NYU. Specifically, the college I’m trying to transfer into is The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. I want to do secondary school social studies education.

Okay, so here’s the deal. For the fall 2006-spring 2007 school year, and then for the fall of 2007, I was enrolled at Barnard College/Columbia University (whatever you want to list it as, I don’t care). Then I took the spring 2008 semester off because of health problems (officially a leave of absence) and was readmitted to come back in this fall. But then the financial aid office screwed me over big time and basically dropped my financial aid down to nothing. Literally, nothing. So since I wasn’t in love with Barnard in the first place, I just decided that I’m going to transfer somewhere, which had always been in the back of my mind since the first week I got to Barnard and realized that I didn’t like it. So now I’m going to the local community college to get some credits, especially some ones relevant to social studies programs.

Here’s my transcript at Barnard:

Fall 2006:
First-Year English (call #1201–I’m going to list these so you can get an idea of whether or not they’d be considered “rigorous”): A
English Literature: 17th Century Prose & Poetry (3166): A-
Philosophy: History of Philosophy I (2101): B+
Russian Literature and Empire: B
*Overall GPA for semester: 3.5

Spring 2007
Finnish Folklore: The Kalevala (4212): A-
First Year Seminar (1181): B+
Elementary German I (1101): A-
History: Alchemy, Magic, and Science (3103): B+
Intro to Psych (1001): P (as in Pass/Fail–you can’t unveil the grades)
*Overall GPA for semester: 3.52; Also: on Dean’s List for 2006-7 (they do it by the year, not by the semester)

Fall 2007
Astronomy: Life in the Universe (1753): Pass
Comparative Literature: American Jewish Literature (4200): I-A (okay so that means that I took an incomplete and once I turned my work in received an A for the class. This still is factored into my GPA, and I took the incomplete option because of the health problems that led to taking the spring off)
Elementary German II (1102): A-
History: American Maritime History (3424): B+
*Overall GPA for semester: 3.67

So my cumulative GPA is 3.55. My teacher rec is going to come from the American Jewish literature class professor, who I got along with really well. At community college this fall I’m taking: American National Government, World Affairs (a poli sci class), Foundations of American Education, Watercolor Studio, and Western Civ II (history). In HS I was on honor roll all 4 years, had a final GPA of 3.7 (unweighted and also we didn’t rank), and received varsity arts awards, academic awards, was published in some newspapers (Wall St Journal, Washington Post, Philly Inquirer), and was in a ton of activities, with leadership positions. Also, regarding test scores, I don’t remember the SAT score, but I got a 30 on the new ACT. HS curriculum: all honors classes (minus math), AP courses, and a class at Swarthmore College spring of senior year.

Can anyone give me an idea of whether or not I’d be a strong/weak applicant?

Hey guys I dont understand.. someone please answer my question :

How is it possible that it’s a rolling admissions and that they give you their decision in 2-3 weeks after you submit? for example,

let’s say I send in my stuff on september 15, i don’t have any college grades yet except for the names of the courses im currently taking + clubs + nor do i have the letter of recommendations from professors yet… what do they do then? evaluate your high school record only?

bump 10 char ~~~

Wait until your semester’s over. There’s no point in applying before you have any grades…

I don’t think the Apps even up yet, is it?

i’m not even sure . the application is the same as last years when i applied as a senior in high school, but … i remember the applications is for NYU is usually up at the end of august. Could it be that theyre using the same application again?

For transfers, the essay will most likely be the same, but i’m unsure about the supplement questions.

Olives ~ what if I submit an application without grades? I’ll still have to wait until i get first semester g rades am i right ?

i think they wait untill u send the scores then they decide

they still need your grades to decide for admissions.

anyway, send whatever grades you have as soon as possible(unless they are bad and you are expecting better grades later). if you got better grades later, send it quickly! if not, take your time unless they ask for it. if you wait no matter the reason is, it’s likely your spot will be taken.

sd2353, you seem fine. actually much better than me.
