I’m applying as a junior transfer (I’m a sophomore now). I have a 3.7 GPA, but had a 2.6 in high school. I’m the VP of my dorm, a member of my class council, and I’ve mentored students at local schools twice now (all of last semester and will be all of this year). I also work on campus.

What do you think my chances are for admission to Gallatin?

Oh my god! They don’t send out acceptance/rejection letters UNTIL DECEMBER!? Why does it say on their website Mid-November!?!?

What the hell! How am I supposed to find housing in under a month, I live out of state!

If that is true, then the whole “We need to hear back from you within three weeks” is ridiculous! They semester will have almost freaking started!

yea i called the admissions office before and they said decisions go out mid december, i thought it was mid november too, but she said nope mid december. sucks..

Mid December isn’t that bad. You’ll probably receive it early december actually. nyu’s adcoms like to state their date a lot later bc if they stated it @ mid nov, they’d get bombarded with calls regarding application status.

they don’t flat out deny if you don’t meet a pre-req unless it absolutely says ‘you cannot apply without __.’

semester doesn’t begin until late january like ianjt said so you have early december to late jan to get your stuff together

acceptance letters come first, rejections second.

That’s fine and dandy if NYU is the only school you’re applying to. Worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) case scenario is that I get accepted and find out after December 1st, which means I’ll lose out on a $1,325 housing deposit. :

If I do get accepted, I’ll probably be too happy to care, but still.

hey guys, im applying to NYU for a transfer in 2008 fall…
im currently studying finance and math at the university of florida…just want to know what my chances are

my stats are:

GPA: 3.77
Honors program
Deans honors roll
pretty good recs

High school: United World College of India, IB
SAT 1: math 700, writing: 610: verbal: 570
SAT 2: math 2c: 750, physics: 730

also i may be able to get a recommendation from a former president of an ivy league…

Unless the President of the Ivy League actually knows you both personally and as a student, it’s probably a waste of a recommendation. These people read thousands of letters of recommendations and they know when a professor is “inventing” a relationship and when it’s real.

I’d find a teacher who you maybe talked with more in college. Maybe in a class where you struggled but pulled out a great grade. Those are the letters of rec that really shine, at least, from what I understand.

Other than that, I think you look like a strong candidate. Remember that NYU really likes the essay, and if your SAT verbal was you weak spot show it was a fluke with your essay. I’d recommend using an editing service like “essay edge” to edit if you’re not a writer genius. It’s a little expensive but I’ve seen them work miracles. Especially if you ask for Nina-Marie Gardner – she is totally fabulous!

Well good luck to you! Hopefully I’ll be there in the spring and I’ll see you in the fall!

what year will you be entering as and what school are you applying to? THis makes a difference I think bc the longer you are in college, the less SATs matter (they still matter though).

But obviously you are doing really well at your current school! Good luck!

well im a sophomore here…actually junior by credit standing…the thing is i can take the SATS again…i took a practice test recently and scored about math 790, writing 720 and verbal 680…so shud i actually pursue the real test or is it a waste of time???

Hey, I posted this a couple of pages back, but no one responded. :[ I’d love any input!!

I’m applying as a Fall 2008 transfer to the Gallatin school. Here are my stats:
COLLEGE:
GPA: 3.70
EC’s: vice president of my dorm, member of my class council, mentor at local elementary school (I did this for the entire Spring '07 semester and am continuing it for the whole of this year), work in an office on campus 8.5 hours/week
AWARDS: Alpha Lambda Delta, Psychology recognition award

HIGH SCHOOL:
GPA: 2.60
SAT: 1100 (old version; 560 on verbal and 540 on math)
EC’s: Destination Imagination - a creative, team-building, problem-solving theater-esque program. I was involved in this for ten years. My senior year, I was one out of several hundred kids who won the Spirit Award.

GAP YEAR:
Worked at a large, national-level store where I was one of the top sales associates in the company. While there, I redesigned some of the forms used daily by each employee. Also, the vice president took many of my ideas back to Home Office to be distributed to the other stores.

So… what do you think my chances for acceptance are? Especially considering my horrible high school record? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I’m a sophomore attending Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, NY. I was looking into trying to transfer to NYU (Sterns or CAS for their Econ major) What do you think my chances are? (For Fall 08)

Math SAT: 690
EC:
Collegiate Baseball Team
Society of Business Tech. Management
Work 20 hours a week
