Stats:
College transferring from: University of Maryland, College Park
Entering as: Sophomore
GPA: 4.0 (using UMD’s gpa system - an A- is a 4.0 at UMD)
Units completed when applied: 15
Units completed after freshman year: 33
Pre-reqs completed: as a incoming sophomore applicant, I finished the english, calculus, and microeconomics requirement. However, I specifically stated in the additional information section that I am also in the process of completing financial accounting, statistics with a calculus prereq, and an intro to business class in order to be considered a competitive applicant.

Subjective:
ECs listed on app: used the additional information section and listed my ec’s as well as leadership positions:
-2 economics clubs, many community service organizations
-I was in a living and learning program called civicus, and joined an honor society for excellence in a freshman’s first year at college
-from high school, nhs, orchestra, fbla, and other community service clubs
-I didn’t have any major leadership positions but I was a coordinator of many committees
Job/Work Experience: an internship at Comptroller of Maryland and my federal work study where I help teach microeconomics to some of the students at UMD
Essays (subject and responses): I talked about my desire to switch from learning theoretical economics to business economcis with a more hands on approach to business. Gave an anecdote as well as explained what Stern could offer me.
Letters of Recommendation: my microeconomics professor who truly thought I was a good student, my english professor
Other schools applied to: Upenn Wharton - rejected, Emory- haven’t heard yet
Comments: I have an older sister who goes to tisch. I also emphasized my love of math and my desire to pursue a minor since Stern loves math students. All in all, I was really surprised and very happy when I heard I got in. I applied to NYU’s CAS during my senior year of high school and was accepted into the Liberal studies program. I think I got into Stern because of my good grades (sent in my mid year report with all A’s around April), my love of math, my good essay, and my commitment to understanding and learning about business. Good luck to everyone :)

Stats:
College transferring from: Bard College
Entering as: Junior
GPA: 4.0/4.0
Units completed: 64 credits
Units in progress: 0, although I haven’t gotten my final grades for this semester yet.
Pre-reqs completed: Not sure what this means? At NYU or current college?

Subjective:
ECs listed on app: Mostly personal stuff I’ve done related to documentary filmmaking. Most of the stuff I do is on my own and not through any kind of organized program.
Job/Work Experience: I worked for a PR firm producing corporate videos and before that at an amusement park.
Essays (subject and responses): I think my essay explained why I wanted to transfer well and told a lot about me as a person, but I don’t feel it was very well organized.
Letters of Recommendation: Just one from a political science teacher I had. I didn’t want to ask a film professor because I didn’t feel that anyone in the film department really understood me, hence the reason why I want to transfer.
Portfolio: I gave them 3 excerpts of some projects I’ve been working on for the past year or so. I think they’re pretty good, but I didn’t follow any of NYU’s instructions to have a clear narrative.

10+ years work experience as a food and beverage professional, including a “Very Good” in the New York Times as a Chef

Essay: Lengthy 1200 words, reflecting my personal, professional, and academic experiences. The essay centered around a theme of character building by not only carefully planning out your life goals, but also traveling down unmarked and unmapped roads with no destination in sight.

Letter of Rec.: I was fortunate enough to have mine come from a PhD NYU alum. She really wanted this for me, so I imagine it was very complimentary.

This was a tumultuous experience, to say the least. I could not be happier. NYU has been my first choice since the get go. I have already gotten into UCONN, Quinnipiac, and am yet to hear back from Fordham (but I don’t care now!).
