Update: After being rejected from NYU Tandon for Spring 2017, I applied to NYU School of Professional Studies for Spring 2017. I just got accepted and will plan to do an internal tranfer to CAS or Tandon after completing one semester at the NYUSPS
@Popcorn11201 did you get to talk with your advisor yet about classes or are you just registering for classes without talking to your advisor first?
@DenNuggs4life Yeah, I have to talk to my advisor first before I can make my classes official. I just had a brainfart moment and couldn’t see the Student Center tab on my Albert account. By the way, do you know if we have to register for transfer orientation or we don’t have to and just show up? Because if we do have to register, where would we do that?
Why did you guys choose NYU? I would like to know because I’m not from the U.S. so I don’t know as well as you guys what makes each university unique, particularly NYU… if you guys could tell me your thoughts on NYU, I would appreciate immensely!
@tchristofaro2 I chose NYU for many reasons: Amazing global reputation virtually for any field: Business (i.e. Stern), Law (NYU Law School) , Medicine (i.e. NYU Langone), the Arts (i.e. film, theatre, music, etc. programs), Engineering/STEM, Real Estate (Schack Institute) etc. Aside from that, it has an amazing alumni reputation that’s willing to help you and will talk with you when it comes to networking. The school has a great deal of diversity with students from across the world which I prefer more than my old school which was 90% typical white Christian. It’s in NYC which is the center of many industries including finance, real estate, media, journalism, etc (and you can’t beat that NYC culture). Great for career prospects–you can easily do an internship while school and take a 10 minute subway ride or even a quick walk and intern for a few days while having classes on other days. I’m studying economics here, and it has a top notch and recognized economics department/reputation, both globally and in the US (US News ranked NYU #8 in top schools for Economics & Business). The cons for me would be that it’s really expensive, doesn’t offer transfer students much financial aid, and I have to take some classes from the core–I just hate and don’t want to take that nonsense foreign language core classes. Anyone fell free to add on anything I missed.
I chose NYU primarily because its location makes it easy to gain valuable internships. It’s also nice that it’s close in distance to Columbia, and I want to go to Columbia Law School eventually.
Did anyone hear from advisement
Update: we’ll be hearing from advisement after the new year
@collegeJerome so you haven’t got your classes at all? my advisor contacted me the day after I finished the transfer portal thing.
@popcorn11201 I never got my transfer portal thing bc I’m not in CAS, they told me my advisor should be in touch soon ! Getting anxious though I want to have my classes scheduled already
Did all of you schedule your classes yet?
I have an appt with my advisor on January 5th. Hoping i get good timings.
What school? @tsunamiii786 my advisor hasn’t even reached out yet
School of professional studies mcghee division
Why haven’t I heard from mine yet!
Merry Christmas guys!! …Question. For those of you staying in on-campus housing, what are your plans prior to move-in day in regards of a place to stay in order to attend the mandatory orientations? Are you guys getting a hotel?
Whens orientation?
@lyoeri33 I’m using Airbnb.
Another question about housing: Do you get to choose what type of housing you want? For example, can you choose to have a singles room or only share it with two people? Can you choose to live in an apartment style kind of housing?
And how do you get a dining plan?
I think you can google NYU dining and add a meal plan through the portal. You get to choose what kind of housing you want. Most common is a double (4 people) but you can choose single. They’re really expensive though. All dorms are apartment style besides like 1 freshman dorm which transfers won’t be placed in anyways
