@Popcorn11201 what’s you’re major if you don’t mind me asking? im econ
@DenNuggs4life sociology. i’m gonna add political science as a second major too, if i could figure out how to do a double major, that is.
@Popcorn11201 Does your advisor tell you anything before you register, or you just get the thumbs up from him/her to register and you register on your own ?
@DenNuggs4life You have two advisors. One is for your specific major and the other, I think, is kind of like an overall, general advisor. Your general advisor is going to be the one who validates the courses you choose for your shopping cart. When you’re done with the shopping cart, you email this advisor and he or she will look it over and validate them for you. And he or she is also the one who connects you with your major advisor. Your major advisor will advise you in which courses for your major you should pick and what courses from your previous school would count as part of your major requirements.
@Popcorn11201 when you contacted your major advisor what did you say? Did you tell them the previous courses you took that may transfer over to your major?
I don’t have a student portal for silver but I emailed them and they said they would be back Jan 4th… I’m not sure what my requirements are though
Bottom line i don’t have to meet w them in person ?
@nyu7896 When I contacted my major advisor, I introduced myself and said I’m transferring in as a sociology major. I told him to review my Transfer College Report and I told him the sociology courses I picked out for the semester. He said that if I passed them, I’ll only have 4 more courses in sociology to take to complete my major, after next semester is over.
@collegeJerome As of right now, yes you don’t have to meet with them in person. Well, for me it is physically impossible for me to meet with them because I live in California. But I feel that when you get to NYU, you should probably meet with them in person, so that you can establish a relationship with them. That is what I am planning to do, anyways. I don’t know about the portal for Silver because I don’t go to Silver; I go to CAS.
Just a question for everyone how many years are you guys planning on staying at NYU? I think most transfers stay a full 2 years but it’s weird since we’re coming in mid year
Yea, I got into the college of nursing which has a two year program, but since they told me I had to take a foreign language and culture/context course I won’t be graduating until spring 2019. So two years for me, plus this upcoming spring semester.
I kinda want to do 3 years because I really want to get the college experience, but I think in all likelihood I’m going to be doing 2.5 years as well.
I figured out a way to graduate in 3 semesters and 2 summers. I think that’s what I’m going to do. I would love to stay longer but it’s just too expensive but I’m hoping to do my masters at NYU so we’ll see. Btw a tip for fulfilling the language requirement, some languages offer an intensive introductory course so you could take Spanish 1 and 2 in one semester. It’s a six credit class.
How did you make that emoji?
=D> [-X
I just used one of the emojis from my iPhone haha
question: when is tuition due? on their website it says january 5th for the spring term… but does this include transfers? i’m not even registered for classes yet
I was wondering the same thing. We won’t be charged until we’re registered and also I haven’t been assigned housing so once that sorted out I’ll pay it off I guess
Same I haven’t even scheduled classes yet - waiting on my advisor
I think tuition should be due later for transfers. They haven’t assigned me or many others an advisor yet and many haven’t even registered for classes…same thing with housing
BTW…anyone doing off campus housing?
