There’s rumored to be a glitch with Albert that if financial aid changes from “award access unavailable” to “no financial aid to view” than that can indicate admission @MrRobot
Hey guys! I sent in my application yesterday! I am currently a sophomore at Fordham University as a dance major in the Alvin Ailey/Fordham BFA Program. My senior year I got into both Tisch and Ailey/Fordham, but decided to go to Fordham because their dance program is better. However, my career goals have shifted since high school, so I am hoping to transfer into Gallatin in the Spring to study dance and business/arts administration! good luck to everyone and I hope we all see each other in the spring!!
Do you guys think NYU is worth the price? I’m in love with the school, it’s where I want to be, but there’s this nagging voice in my head telling me that the cost will be too unbearable. I assume what you major in will play a huge role, which makes sense. But still. I’m thinking it’s wise to stick with a state school to mitigate the future burden of debt. I’m very torn on the issue. I love NYU with all my heart, I do. But I also love my sanity in terms of financial comfort. Just some thoughts I wanted to get out there. Best of luck to everyone.
@NotKanyeWest I think it depends on the person. For example, my boyfriend is in film and television at tisch and he doesn’t believe what he’s learning in class is worth the money he is spending on school–mostly because he already knows everything they’ve been teaching the film kids because we went to performing arts high school–but the people he’s meeting and the teachers he’s taking from make it worthwhile for him. it really depends on you at at the end of the day i think. regardless, you’ll be getting a great education from a great school!
Send your application in before the deadline and than decide! You don’t want to feel like “I wish I had applied” or “I wish I went there”, it doesn’t hurt to try. And if a part of you DOES want to go, I’m sure you’d be more than motivated when you get in. Apply. See your financial aid, take student loans if you need to , be a part time student. Do whatever it takes - I personally think NYU is worth it .
Good luck errybody!!!
also its the connection you make throughout college, which you’ll be making at NYU, not a city college. There’s no campus community at city college, and the professors don’t seem to care about the students.
@lenaballerina I’m actually considering a major in film, similar to your boyfriend. I applied to CAS but if you don’t mind, I’d love to hear more about his experience in tisch, more specifically the film and television department. Does his networking outweigh the lack of academic rigor that you mention? Or does the cost of education seem to be more of cause for concern. Sorry for inquiring too much. Thank you for your input.
@collegeJerome thanks for your words mate- i appreciate it. i sent my application and documents a while ago so now I’m playing the waiting game. I’ve received some acceptances from several smaller (much cheaper) schools which is why I’m a bit worried about the prospective cost of NYU. I suppose I’ll wait for NYU before I make any decisions.

Ahhh yes I have seen the thing about the financial aid thing from past years posts.
When do you think they start reviewing applications? If I sent it in October 15 do you think they looked at it yet or do they like wait for a certain date to start reviewing apps
I believe they are constantly reviewing applications. I also believe that decisions are based on all applications received after this morning too. It’s a rolling acceptance based system.
@NotKanyeWest I can ask him for a more in depth analysis and message you privately, but from what I’ve picked up it’s not that it isn’t academically rigorous, it’s just they spend a lot of time teaching everyone the basics so they’re all on the same playing field, but he just has done all of that already for a few years now. It’s definitely more of a cost of education concern because he sees it as he knows everything he’s being taught, so why is he paying so much to not learn anything new. But this year he’s definitely been happier in the program; they have more movie-making projects and he really likes the boys in his group for that class. Also, he works on a set almost every weekend now (unpaid as of right now), but he keeps meeting new people each time who remember him and ask for him to work on their set in the future. So he’s getting a great opportunity to network and great on-set experience. Honestly, he’s known from the start he didn’t like Tisch’s film structure for his own personal goals (he even put that in his NYU essay lol), but he was really impressed by their notable alumni and is growing to like the program more and more. But I’ll still for sure ask for more details and message you if you want!
@MrRobot Do you think it would hurt my chances if I turned it in yesterday, on the day of the deadline? You said it’s on a rolling basis…
@collegeJerome That hasn’t been my experience at my community college. My community college is awesome, but I do need to transfer because I need my Bachelors Degree.
@Popcorn11201 that’s awesome ! I like my school too, but it is easy to get lost in such a large school that’s not catering to each student like a private school does… I don’t even have advisor :(. Also NYU has always been my #1, but if I don’t get in I’ll be okay because I love school. I really do hope I get in though.
I turned my application in yesterday at 8 PM Western Time, so it would be 11 PM Eastern Time. Do you think I’m ok? Does Common App take several hours to be processed, so would that mean I actually turned it in late? PLEASE reply because I’m starting to get nervous.
Your good! You’ll probably get an email from NYU in 2 days w your net ID to be able to view the application checklist and the materials.
who wants to volunteer to call NYU and ask them around when we’ll be receiving decisions ??
@Popcorn11201, I don’t know exactly, it may just make your application be looked at last. You would have to look up the specifics. You are applying for spring 2016 right? And have you turned in all of your documents already?
Yeah everything has been mailed in before November 1. For the Common App, I sent it in before midnight Eastern Time ON November 1.Yeah I’m applying for Spring 2017 transfer.
