Anyone care to share anything?

Well, I currently live in AD, and due to some very annoying circumstances, I can’t move overseas for undergrad, so I’ll just have to make do with what I have here, and maybe take a semester or two in NY or somewhere else. NYUAD is the best shot I have at a decent undergrad education, so I’m incredibly nervous, especially 'cause I probably don’t have a snowball’s chance at getting accepted. All the other unis here suck.

That’s laughably false. NYUAD is considered and treated as the “honors college” of NYU. IF accepted at the AD campus, you could easily gain admission to the NY campus (though FA would be much worse). Indeed, most of the students who came to my interview for AD but weren’t accepted there were offered spots at NYUNY (if desired).

HangingOnStars, if you have questions please message me. I’m starting at NYUAD this fall and am in close conversation with admissions people.

Also applying to NYU AD through Early Decision 1. Hoping to study bio or comp sci, maybe both. I live in VA right now and I always get the most confused/surprised faces when I tell people its my 1st choice.

“Abu Dhabi?! Where is that?!”

“In the UAE or United Arab Emirates, which is pretty much right under Iran, next to Saudi Arabia.”

“Iran?? Oh my, that sounds so dangerous, why do you even want to study in the Middle East, oh goodness gracious that is SO far away, aren’t you going to miss your parents, well you know there are so many good schools in Virginia… blah blah blah…blah.”

Hi everyone, I’m a sophomore at NYUAD and I am also happy to answer any questions you might have, though PM is probably easiest to get hold of me.

@twostepsfromit totally feel you there… Normally I just say “Near Dubai”, most people know that.

Hey KiwiKid, this is kind of late but I was wondering what your experience is like with students from South America or any Hispanic Americans (I am a Peruvian-American from Virginia)? Are there a lot of them there and how are their aspects, if you know any of them, on studying in Abu Dhabi?

Also, is the science centre there really good when it comes to research with nano-particles or artificial intelligence (robotics)? So basically what I really want to know is if the computer science program is resourceful or somewhat research oriented… heh?

Oh and last question I promise… what kind of questions did they ask you during Candidate weekend? I know there are essays and interviews and class sampling involved at some point as well as the touristy type aspect where you can see the mosque and tour the city as a whole really, but what I would really like to know is whether they are actually constantly scrutinizing you the entire time to see if you are really ready to commit or if they kind of wait to do that during the interview process. I mean, I’m guessing they don’t accept the students that come that don’t know English too well, can’t interact with different kinds of students, come off as uninterested, or lack the readiness to be far away from their typical environment.

Okay wow, that was kind of multiple questions packed in 1 paragraph so I apologize but I really would appreciate any input. I’ve done my research for NYUAD academically, geographically, etc. but not really on how the students socialize with one another or how the overall social atmosphere is there because thats difficult to really understand unless you visit the campus on an overnight stay (which I have yet to do) or maybe know somebody who goes there (which is half true since you are up here thank goodness).

But yeah, kind of freaking out here, in a good way, because I’ve been looking for the type of college NYUAD represents ever since I really cared about applying to college and what not.

Much appreciated, KiwiKid! And if you can, let me know how you like your studies there or if you have anything else you would like to add on about your overall NYUAD experience.

Hey uh im thinking bout NYUAD campus essay right now, the 700char one, anyone has bright ideas how to write that? I mean I’ve never been to there =(

Oh and uh will principal’s nomination really help? I mean I got one but not sure that can help much

AD is for students who want a global university experience; it’s more difficult to be accepted than the States campus so it’s definitely not just for people who can’t study in the U.S. There are many good schools in the U.S.; Abu Dhabi is a chance for something different.

I applied for NYUAD ED2 as well, is anyone here an international student and applying for financial support?
I’m also afraid of not recognising my school system which doesn’t provide a GPA, AP classes, midyear report or depend on SAT exam and all i had for education area is my final transcript with good grades.

Yes!! Finally found class of 17 thread for NYUAD. Btw I applied RD. So has anyone been invited to or has already travelled to NYUAD for Candidate weekend? Sincerely, I am just praying I get invited this February… This is the most unique school I applied to. Btw I heard NYUAD is not only need aware for internationals but also need blind. That is soooo awesome tho. I hope I get accepted cuz I am seriously considering going to UAE instead of US. Btw, can someone tell me more about NYUAD’s academics?

Well, one thing about NYUAD is that it is totally free, even for international students.
I too live in a country that does not provide any GPAs and APs,but I know that for international students there is another system accepted all over the world. You will have to ask your teacher to give you all the marks you got during high school, then make a chart, mentioning which grades suit theirs. And then ask your school principal to sign the document. That’s all

Im an Ecuadorian student and i applied to NYUAD RD, and last week i was invited to Candidate Weekend! was anyone else invited to the february 14th CW?

I had really bad SAT’s i did not submit them! i have a 3.75 gpa! the thing is that i did not apply myself during sophomore and previous years so my gpa dropped. My junior and senior years were excellent and got a 4.0 gpa. I t was a major climb form previous years! I think i was invited to CW not because of my academics, but because of my community service. I have organized many fundraiser, one of the biggest heleped a shetler for pregnant single mother from ages 12 to 18. i went to a poor indigenous community six hours away from the capital city and taught computer literacy courses to 16 people, all on my own! I guess that NYUAD is not looking JUST for the best scores and grades. In such a mixed pool of different nationalities i guees they are looking for the trully international student! dont worry to muuch about your grades! you did great community service, you should get invited! i was not the best student of my class, but i did engage in my community! i hope i can hear from anyone that will alsso be attending the february CW!
