And if someone didn’t notice, the previous post was the 500th comment on this thread! :P

@awaaa: I’m not one of the applicants who were nominated by their schools but on the NYUAD website it clearly says that all nominees have to apply in order to be considered for admission:
“A nomination is not the equivalent of an application for admission. Each student nominee must complete and submit the full NYU Abu Dhabi application by the published deadlines to be considered for admission.”
So I’m not sure if someone who hasn’t applied can be invited to a CW.
From what I can tell, CW does play a role in determining acceptance, since they say it’s both informative and evaluative.

@blackplant — Although what you’re saying is right, but yh for nominated students and that’s some of them, they were invited to a CW even before they had submitted their applications.

@murtaza101: I wasn’t aware of that o_o I don’t understand why they were invited before they applied, though. If they were thinking of applying RD later on, they could’ve just been invited to one of the RD CWs after they’d submitted their applications.

I think there is a difference of approach in context, by that I meant that for non-nominated students, the approach is that “Oh well, his/her application is quite strong enough, so let’s check how he/she is really like when it comes to NYUAD in practicality” while for nominated students, it would’ve been like “Hm, he/she’s nominated by his/her school, so they must be potentially strong applicants, so let’s invite them over to NYUAD and let them experience so that they could actually apply or consider applying.”

lol. i’m not nominated, cuz my school is anonymous.

There is no reason to rej those who aint nominated by schools but to give those nominees invitations before they have submitted their app. (If it is the FACT, dat’s not that okay.)

but anyway…i havent receive the invitation yet. LOL. Think that other colleges would admit me.

I’d better not say too much about it. cuz that’s life’.

heya reconquista,

one of my friends received an invitation for the Dec CW, just yesterday! so, I believe u must not give up as of yet!..wait for another week!..u might hear from them!

anyways, stay positive and good luck! :)

@ silky

Thanks very much for your words! =D

Well…think that the probability is …kinda trival ne…

cuz the AO said all invitations would be sent by the end of this week nd…now its 19:33 Sunday here in China…

But anyway…think that I would try transferring to NYUAD…(at least I still have got chance to be invited next year. lol)

@Reconquista – NYUAD may not be having transfers until after the first class graduates, I’ve asked this question a lot of times during info sessions and even the CW and all what I got was this reply, although the transfers is still not official though but that’s their expectation, I think there were some 2nd-year university students who’re studying in NYUAD since they applied as freshman there cause that’s possible. :)

@ murtaza

awwwww!!! no transfer?! that’s sad… well…decades later…maybe my kid can be admitted. XD

so …I guess that’s why u take a gap year? =)

@Reconquista – You can say that, its partially cause of that I took a gap year rather than enrolling in a university, secondly apart from NYUAD, all other universities here in UAE are complete **** in comparison (no kidding) :)

@murtaza

And…to what other colleges are you applying to?
But I have heard that there is a college in DuBai which is good indeed?

so today the Abu Dhabi presenter from Moscow came to my city…and she said that all December CW people have already been invited… but she said I might have a chance to go to the January weekend. However, on the website it is written that all ED I applicants should expect to travel before January… so I don’t know what to believe.

@ eli

hey eli! that might be true!

I heard that last year…because…there were not enough CWs for ED applicants…
many of them were ‘deferred’ to JAN. CW. that’s possible.
But…next year there would be no CW in Jan…

November 18-21, 2010
December 9-12, 2010
February 3-6, 2011
February 24-27, 2011

but to wait until FEB??? that’s painstaking …hahahahahaha. then i gonna lose 30 pounds

yeah,right…
I don’t know :(

@Reconquista & elithefair — You guys can try waiting another week, hopefully ![]()
P.S - All other universities are **** in comparison to NYUAD here in UAE cause I’m a person who’s applying to MIT, Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, Cornell and UPenn and no university matches their standard here

as for other colleges, I’m not gonna apply anywhere else, since I’m not that smart to apply for Ivy League colleges and others will not give me such great financial aid. This is my only chance.

I know about deferral to Jan. CW that happened last year but no idea wht will be there this year, I’m presuming that the no. of ED-1 ppl in Dec. CW is quite large already, and yh best of luck to all of ya again for invites. :)

I guess at this point it is difficult to believe there’s a chance to get an invitation to CW. At least I can stop fretting about it, and start looking forward to earning admission to the other colleges I applied to.

@elithefair — Taking an only chance at NYUAD was one of my reasons of a gap year, since my parents hadn’t allowed me to go abroad or anything for studies, so I took a shot at NYUAD as it was in UAE itself, and rejection there was a bitter feeling. I’d suggest you to see if there are other colleges you can try for, it’d be helpful for you.
@jivybound11 – Well you’re partially right, but I’d only say to stop now if there is an official confirmation from admissions officers, cause sometimes AOs themselves may not know special cases of invites, so its still worthwhile to just wait another week, cause after that, its all over.
