NYU Abu Dhabi

Has anybody received anything from travel agency?

cst11
I got it on the 20th of Jan

and i didnt get anything from them or the travel agency after it! Im kind of disappointed with it.
what about you guys?

guys, today I met my friend who had attended nov. CW and was not accepted. He said that he went to Abu Dhabi with his teacher, and NYUAD arranged everything for the teacher too.
@derzesssa === One girl from my city got information about her flight 4 days prior to CW, I guess they have booked and prepared visas for us already, soon they will sent out details.

@NewYorkUAD – Don’t worry about travel details, they’ll let you know the details during the final week before your CW.
@VodkaRain – I myself was a bit surprised in decline of applicants to NYUAD, though they should’ve risen.

Hey all -

I’m new to CC, and so glad I found this website…I received an invite to the Feb 3-6 CW last week…and have been going stir crazy waiting for the travel itinerary ever since!

Congrats to everyone else who received an invite…I can’t wait to meet you all in Abu Dhabi next week!

@Vodkarain, well, the direct applications to NYUAD increased, suggesting that more people know about it. I think the checkbox-ticks decreased on the NYU-NY applications because once the stats for the inaugural class came out people were dissuaded from applying.

Hey, yeah it went down but that’s just because I think more people know that NYUAD isn’t just a -oh cool maybe I can get accepted here if NYUNY doesn’t accept me. Once they saw that it was a more elite program, the applications probably went down. However it still has a seriously low acceptance rate, and if you have seen any articles about colleges at the moment, e.g. HYP etc., they often want applicants just to reject them-so it makes them seem more exclusive…when in fact those people would never be accepted in the first place. I think that NYUAD caters to a very specific type of student, and they make that clear. If anyone comes on here who was accepted to the Class of 2015, and hasn’t yet joined the fb group-do join!
And someone asked about the reflective writing on the CW, it’s not really three separate essay tasks, it’s more just like expressing your feelings on the weekend and on the university itself. Just be creative and write what you think-it isn’t anything really serious or exam-like or anything. I sat in the garden in gorgeous sunshine and wrote it…it’s nothing to be really stressed about. Good luck to everyone going on the CW next week-you’ll have a fabulous time, and it’s still not that hot there yet…so it’ll be lovely! Just be yourself and have fun! If you get in, I’ll see you by August 27th :D

Hey guys I saw the article about this year’s applicant numbers and I have a question here.
What percent of the students who got invited to the Feb 3~6 CW will be ultimately accepted? Does anyone have any ideas?

@ NewYorkUAD - The travel Agency emailed me to send my passport page for the visa.

@adwcolorado- Congrats … hoping to see there :)

@nyuadhopeful : hi… congrats on being accepted, I was just wondering, Is it conditional acceptance? do they specify What grade we should get for our finals? thanks x

@NightAngel – ED is not usually speaking a conditional acceptance. They’re a final decision basically, you do submit final grades afterwards and its upto the university whether if they don’t feel its upto their standard then they may reject you after acceptance. But in most cases, this doesn’t happen.
@fkwhsfhseh – There’s no telling as to how many people can be accepted from a particular CW.

congrats to those who’v got the invitations. =D

Join the Facebook group guys! I’m way too excited now.

@NewYorkUAD - where was the student from that you know who went with a teacher…? I was on the November CW and I don’t recall hearing about that. I didn’t think any teachers tagged along.

Alright, so I have a couple of questions for all of you guys -

Can we get a running total of how many students have gone on the CWs? I know that for my CW (November) there were 54 kids. KiwiKid, I have heard about you indirectly from ED1ers that I know so I assume you were on December CW right? How many kids went on that? I’m just trying to build up some statistics 8)

Are there any American ED2ers out there? I feel like I’m the only one…

For the kids going on either of the February CWs, do you know if any RD students will be on them as well?

Thanks guys!

Also, if you’d like to know about me, I’m an American as I mentioned, from Massachusetts, traveled on November CW, nominated, have a friend in the inaugural class, 4.0GPA 2270 SATs, applied ED2 with around 5 others from my CW and anxiously awaiting a response. It’s so great to meet all of you and I truly hope I can be a classmate to all of us accepted :)

Also, I’ll give some insight on the CW timeline -

I attended the November CW which began on November 17th.

I received my invite on October 21st. This was based only on nomination - all November CWs were nominees - and my nomination was received by NYUAD on October 12th.

My forms were all due by October 26th (this was a huge issue for me because my passport was about to expire but NYUAD is amazing and it all worked out).

I received the Facebook invite on November 1st.

I was also sent my flight information on November 1st.

NYUAD emailed me a health insurance card and allowed me to register for the class on November 11th.

And I didn’t need a visa.

Hope this helps! Of course the timeline may be entirely different for others, but I thought it might be useful for me to share my experience.

i think the second february candidate weekend is going to be mostly rd with some ed 2

because more applicants apply rd then ed and if the second candidate weekend was only ed 2 then there would only be one rd weekend so it makes sense that the second weekend in february will have mainly rd applicants

I have asked NYUAD, they did say that some ED-II invites will be there for the 2nd CW of Feb, but yh of course by logic, there will be many more RD candidates. Plus, there’s no point in determining a particular size of a CW, cause its upto NYUAD to decide how many people will be there for a particular CW. For example the March CW last year had some around 80 students in it, while all others had varying sizes. The only thing that MAY matter is the no. of acceptances made from each decision cycle rather than a CW cause that may have varying stats.

@bmraotwtn === He was also in NOV CW, there were two guys from Kazakhstan, and even two teachers. (one was HIS teacher, the second was a woman from another city, my friend said, but Kazakh)
Today I got the ticket receipt)) and a notice, saying soon I’ll get an invitation to FB group.

Good luck to all who are hoping for NYU Abu Dhabi. My son is part of the Class of 2014 and he loves it. When I asked him over Christmas break if he has any regrets, he said absolutely none. I can tell he is at peace with his choice and he can just see the whole world (literally) has opened up for him. We are from a small town in Missouri, less than 4000 people. So the difference for him has been striking and inspiring. Best of luck to all.

@ihelkey — what is ur son’s major ? and did he receive a full ride or just partial financial assistance ?

i think NYU Abu Dhabi is one of the best universities in the world Regardless of the fact that its new. I applied for early desicion 2, and waiting for the acceptance letter.
