I am currently waiting for my admittance letter from NYU.

Few people at my school have received their acceptance letter already last week and I don't know anyone who got rejected yet.

However, I am still waiting for my letter. GAHHHHH!

When I first applied to NYU, I thought I had a good chance of getting in ( I applied to CAS) but I am losing my confidence at this point.

Do you guys know if NYU sends out acceptance letters earlier than the "rejected letters"??

I REALLY REALLY want to go to NYU, but I think I will end up going to UCSD if I get rejected...

to make it short.... :D
Anyone still waiting for their letter from NYU?
and do you guys know if they are sending out "reject letters" right now along with the acceptance letter?

yeah im still waiting too [Stern]. a friend of mine from PA says that some ppl from her school have already gotten rejected from CAS and Stern [and i called her up like… 4-5 days ago?]. which makes me all the more antsy. so yes, rejection letters are out, but there’s no clear pattern.

im waiting for a letter or pack from Tisch. I don’t know about the other schools but tish told me last week that they are still sending these invitations for events in ny… Did you people you know already get actual acceptance packages or invites? Looking back on previous years some people received acceptances anywhere from march 27- april 4… so i would say you still have some time:)

im apply 2 NYU as a transfer, fall of 09 to CAS
do high school stats really affect the decision making at this point…because i am maintaining a 4.0 my freshman year but my highschool gpa and stats were horrible, thanks 4 ne ideas

I got what I think is a likely letter.
Dear _____,
Congratulations! I am very pleased to inform you that your offer of admission letter to New York University’s College of Arts and Science is on its way to you.

Then a bunch of other stuff.

I have a feeling it’s different for each school within NYU.
On top of that, selective schools like NYU are IMPOSSIBLE to accurately gauge in admissions; Just keep on keeping on till admissions come.

They’re supposed to be mailing out all the letters tomorrow (Friday) so we should get it by/on/around April 1st next week. For the invites (basically the likely letters) I hear people might still be getting them this week even!

I’ve yet to receive anything, though I wonder if geographical distance has anything to do with it (since I’m in TX). ARGH!

yeah i talked to admissions and they said the same thing. invites went out this week so people should get some by the end of this week then acceptances. Hoping to get an invite!

@krisjan91 a lot of people basically got email acceptances within the last few days. Did the office happen to mention if some accepted students were not sent these?

i went to ‘contact us’ on NYU’s website, clicked on the forum section and read this:

my daughter received an email telling her she is in a group of selected applicants, informing her of the dates of freshman admission events, and suggesting that she make travel arrangements. Does this mean she’s been admitted?

You are welcome to contact our office by phone at anytime and we will gladly check the status of any application. If your daughter did receive the admitted students email, it means she has been offered admission to the University and will be receiving an official package in the mail soon. We hope that you will begin planning a campus visit, either to one of our open houses or an on campus admitted student information session. Our admitted student events are now open for registration and we hope to see you on campus soon.

We will also have off campus information sessions for families who are not able to attend an on campus event in the coming weeks. We hope you can join us for at least one of these events and please let us know how we can be of assistance as you and your daughter make plans for next year.

from this it seems that ‘admittance emails’ or ‘plan a visit emails’ were sent out and are the most likely of likely letters. However, from the AO’s response, it seems the emails were done at random or selectively - as in not everyone was sent an email regardless of being admitted or rejected.

my guess is that one of the following situations is occuring:
the admissions office is using this year to test email notification v.s their current mail notification
the admissions office is trying to beat competing schools in notifying applicants (as in Applicant “A” will become excited about NYU if he suddenly receives an early notification of admittance before he receives his Duke or Northwestern notification, and therefore Applicant A may start considering enrolling in NYU before considering others because of the sudden excitement)
Emails are being sent to admitted applicants who received some merit-scholarship or admitted students that NYU really wants to recruit
There has been a sudden slowdown of mail from NY that forced NYU to start emailing people to avoid missing their April 1st deadline
Somebody in the Admissions office screwed up by sending “Plan a Visit” emails that implied admissions and now the Dean/Director has decided to start notifying several applicants to cover up the screw up.

I can’t say which is/are true, but i would bet on the first scenario. I would have a better guess if i knew if I received an email but I contacted them with an Email Change Request right when people on CC started posting about notifications via email. I no longer have access to my old email so I can’t say for sure if they emailed to my old address and I’ll just never know, if they haven’t and won’t email me, or if I just haven’t received an email to my new address yet.
