I know they're going to start sending the emails after 5 pm on April 1st (why?!! why can't they just send them now?? haha) but I would rather read my decision on paper first for some reason, probably because it just seems more official that way haha...

I know this is silly but I was wondering how much later the letter gets to you. If it's going to show up a week (or even more than 2 days) later, I'll just read the email, but I really would rather read the actual letter first. it's just more dramatic and official that way, whether it's good or bad news. (I hope it's not bad news!!!!!!) I don't think it sinks in as much when you read it in email form as when it's a letter...what do they put on the subject line? is it 'Admission Decision' or simply 'We are sorry to inform you that you will not be attending NYU this fall' or 'Congratulations...'? As much as I want to see my decision, I'm equally terrified to find out, so I want to be prepared haha

I REALLY want to get in! ahhh I can't believe it will be like 10 more days!!!!! (that's SO long!)

I'm so nervous! I hope I figure out on the 1st because it will be excruciating to wait any longer! anyway, sorry I know this is a trivial question b/c it's stupid to care whether it's on the computer or on paper, but I was just wondering if anyone knew when each is received. Thanks!! and good luck to other applicants!

I don’t think it’s stupid at all, I wish it were on paper as well. I wouldn’t wait for the letter though as they’re anticipating that they might not even be able to get everyone’s decisions up on April 1st - the sheer volume of applicants, around 40,000, has complicated matters slightly. Besides which, I’m not entirely sure that they send out hard copies of rejection letters. So if it’s good news, you’ll still be waiting a while, and if it’s bad news, you might not get a letter at all :(

okay thank you so much! I’ll definitely read the email, but it will probably take me like 10 minutes to get the nerve up to click it! Thanks, I’m glad you didn’t think I was annoying for caring about that haha good luck francis if you’re applying too and I hope to see you in the fall too swimdude!! I really really really hope so.

I can’t stand the wait either!!! Ahhh!!! NYU will be the last college I’ll be hearing from. Most of them come out either the day before or by the end of this week And NYU is the school I want to get in the most. Sigh… I hate waiting. Lol

same here beautiful! I’m SO SCARED. ya nyuhopy, that’s exactly what I was thinking…That would be awful to see it right when you get on your email. (unless it says Congratulations, which I SO SO SO hope it does) Good luck everyone!

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will release admission decisions on Friday, April 1st, after 5pm (Eastern Standard Time)

All decisions will be sent via email and will not be released over the phone or posted anywhere on our website. We will begin sending decisions after 5pm, but given the volume of decisions to be mailed – nearly 40,000 – it will take some time before each applicant receives his/her admission decision. If you have not received your admission decision by Monday morning, April 4th, you may call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and we will provide you with your admission decision at that time. Please understand that we only provide admission decisions to students and never to parents or other family members.

yikes, what does ‘after 5 pm’ mean anyway?? I guess it means at 5:01 they’ll start sending them? ahhh I just want to know!

For the smart and/or anxious people reading this thread, my recommendation, get yourself logged in before 5 PM to the portal. I remember sonny was on the website minutes before a decision from one of his other Tier One colleges he applied to; he got his response before the system got overwhelmed and impossible for others who logged in minutes later to get through until hours later that night.

Just a suggestion in case that happens with NYU and if NYU will be inputting all responses at the same time (not staggered randomly like their website message implies). If NYU is not simultaneous sending out email acceptances/ rejections, then you may very well have to wait hours (or even days, worst case scenario, for your response per NYU message cited above).

thanks evolving! I thought nyu wasn’t posting it on the portal though, only by email…but I’ll get on there asap anyway just in case! Thanks for the advice!! I’ve heard of that happening to people-some of my friends had to wait for a couple days before they were finally able to see their admission decision!

I thought NYU candidates had to get onto the NYU portal for their decisions. If they are sending out emails, then it should be a matter of accessing your own email account. Then that really is dependent on when NYU sends out your individual decision via email (either staggered or simultaneously with all applicants). Though the decision might also be on the portal?

Sorry, sonny received his notification by regular mail first as a scholar (followed by an email, I believe), so I was not aware that you do not have to access the NYU portal for your decision.
