@maxgoettler: I got my invitation by email. @amasu1: I wasn’t nominated by my school, were you? I don’t know anyone else who applied. And after seeing the ECs people posted here I never thought I would get in. I live in California, near San Francisco, where are you from?

And just out of curiosity: what do your parents think? Mine don’t want me to go in the fall, even if I get in. I’m pretty sure I could convince them. Just wondering if anyone else ahd the same problem.

<p>@kty421 : I got contaacted by them and then sent them an email with my facebook profile name and facebook email cause i had the same problem just like u well , to tell u honestly my parents are totally with me on this decision, the UAE is just 3 hours by plane from egypt so it wouldnt be much of a problem…How old are you btw ? and what were ur SAT scores cause i guess those were the ones u submitted since u live in the US i submitted Alevels and am 16 in grade 11 from egypt so glad to meet you :D</p>

<p>I’m a junior. I have a question about the financial aid. How ‘generous’ is it really. How much, do you believe, will upper middle class making $120,000-$150,000 be able to get?</p>
<p>@zhangxy : students who will be admitted are the top 1 - 2 % of the world’s student all over the world and they are only going to be 100 students from all over the globe, so literally they are the best…and besides Abu Dhabi is already funding the university…so expect the financial aid will be not less than 70% for any student , and actually many will get full scholarships merit and need based…go to their site on the web and read more :D</p>
<p>@THEDASHASH: I’ll be 18 in September, which is too late to go without parent permission… I’ll just have to convince them, I guess, haha. I got 2300 on my SATs but my GPA is 3.77 UW 4.08 W and no really impressive ECs- definitely not Harvard caliber or anything so I was really happy to be invited. I guess my hook was that I take Arabic at community college. What about you? Is NYUAD your first choice?

<p>oh ok wow, now i’m really excited! the full ride prospects + going halfway around the world + academically intense… seems to fit all my criteria haha. though I probably have the same problem as kty421, my parents are probably going to be hesitant to send me all the way to the middle east but I’m sure I can convince them somehow.</p>
<p>@kty421 : Well i submitted Alevels and am from Egypt…i submitted 8 olevels with scores of 5 A* and 3A’s…and 3 Alevels (maths , physics , computing) with grades A of all 3…well for me NYUAD is definitely my first choice , as u said before its financial aid is irresistible … plus Opportunities there are ENDLESS !!! so yah ill definitely take the offer if i get accepted !! Btw are u a male or a female cause i can get it out of your nickname ? :P</p>

<p>freefork- I didn’t submit any special NYUAD forms either but I got the invite. Am I supposed to make a “portfolio”? What is that? Honestly, I don’t think I have anything that would go into a portfolio. How large is the final admitted class? I saw the number 100 a lot, but that can’t be right.</p>
<p>The booklet I printed said that the trip was both for the prospective student to check out the school and for the faculty to evaluate the student. That makes me nervous.</p>
<p>They just emailed me today and I need to drop a lot of cash to rush a passport in time for the trip. I’m really concerned about spending money on something that might fall through, but the opportunity is too much to pass up.</p>

<p>How are you getting your passport? The expedite option on the official website says that the time frame is 2+ weeks and I need it in 2. There’s a website called rushmypassport that will get it in a week for a fee of $100, but that’s a bummer. I’m calling some of the numbers in the packet tomorrow to see if anyone has a better idea, but that might be the best option…</p>
<p>Also, I looked up the “portfolio” and it’s just a supplement of three short answer questions. Even if we have to finish that, it won’t be too much work. I’ll ask the guy on the other end of the phone tomorrow.</p>
