Hey I guess this post should go into the 'what are my chances' board, but I think since you guys GO to NYU youd understand the admissions process better.

Stats:

Indian
Male
16, Junior
Live in NY

GPA 3.5 UW 3.7-8W

SAT scores: To make up for my abhysmal GPA I am looking at a 2300+ on the SATs.

ECs: Really good Id say, I dont have a sport but I did some pretty rare stuff like tutoring chlildren in India, Paricipating in a body4life program (went from overweight to 12% bf have before/after pics , and I can get some really good RECs..

My friend with a 4.0w/2060 who did research @ an Ivy league school and played varisty football was rejected, FLAT OUT!!!

I got into CAS with a 3.4 UW/4.0W and a 2180 SAT. A 2300 will probably make NYU a safe match for you.

really! awesome..I say this because a lot of my smart senior friends were rejected like crazy from there

Well, it also depends on your class rank. I was top 12%.

My class rank sucks ill say that straight up lol but I think i can balance that with my Ecs and stuff like that

I got accepted to NYU College of Arts and Sciences

my GPA was 4.0 UW
EC included volunteering, swim team for a yr and other activities that only lasted a year each
SATs were: 580math, 680writing, 740reading
other: Who's Who, I have over 30 college credits including college credit for taking chem 1&2 and organic chem 1&2 while still a junior and senior in highschool at a local college
Essay- must say my essays were pretty good and original

^ I have 150 hrs + @ the hospital with colenteering WITH patients, and lol I do the 1 yr thing too!

Youre SATs are pretty good though, and as per college credit goes by the time I have graduated I will have probably taken 5 AP courses and 2 college level courses, as well as 2 summer courses where I studied chemistry and physics @ JHU

so I think I have a decent shot

i think that if your EC's show a certain degree of 'specialization' this might give you an advantage over another candidate with similar stats and a random laundry list of EC's. I certainly think it helped me; my SAT was a 2050. Not so stellar; a 2300 or better definietly puts you in solid contention for those highly valued 4000 freshman seats. other than my slightly lower SATs (hence, GSP), i was top 2% of my class, 3.8UW GPA, solid EC's and essays. Are you going to try for CAS?

It would be safe to assume its only going to get even more competetive, so keeo working your butt off (awesome job so far!) and as always, have a safety.
