I’m planning on applying to NYU Tisch Film school and NYU’s application is pretty open in regards to standardized testing. I got all 5s on the AP tests I might want to submit (Statistics, World History, English, or Psychology) so I wanted to know if three 5s would look more impressive on my application than an average ACT (30) or SAT (1400) score. If not then at around what score would 3 AP tests look more impressive than an ACT or SAT?
You have the AP’s needed to apply with just APs and can do just that. As to “impressive” in relation to SAT or ACT, the AP scores are the highest possible AP scores and thus impressive. But you could, if you wanted to, also submit your SAT which is within NYU’s top 50%. What happens if you submit both sets of tests is that you are considered under both admissions methods and if not admitted with just SAT, you may be admitted with the APs (or vice versa). In other words, you should look at it not as what is more impressive but instead as potentially having two bites at the apple.
Thank you so much! I remember just looking at NYU’s admission site and thinking that I’d have to choose which tests to submit. This helped a lot!
