NYU= All Rich Kids?

I really like NYU and its been my "dream school" so to speak for quite a while. But at 45k a year I would have to take 25K a year in loans. I will unfortunately not qualify for financial aid. Is this amount in loans norm for nyu students or do these students come from "well off" families? Thanks in advance to any responses.

NYU is not all rich kids. There are plenty of people like me who are here because of scholarship money from the university or from outside sources. There are plenty of people who, every year, take on another $20k in debt to attend. There are also a few who can afford to pay full sticker price.

In short, while NYU is weighted towards the rich and middle class, there are people from all walks of life.

thanks! I would love to hear from some of those people who are taking big loans (with no financial aid) for NYU? How do u guys justify such large loans?

i'm taking out 28K in loans every year
middle class family, DID qualify for financial aid...like 44K-28K, i guess

indeed there are non-rich kids at NYU, but there are also so many rich kids there that most people seem rich (nothing too over the top, but just to warn you...).

NYU has nothing on USC for being rich...or so I hear.

Mostley Upper/middle-upper class.

There are plenty of rich kids here, but non rich ones as well. Enormous tabs at clubs/bars, weekends in the Hamptons or Miami, and expensive clothes are not uncommon at all, but fact is that any school that charges as much as this one combined with being in expensive Manhattan is going to have a much higher concentration of the affluent than normal.

The same goes for the University of Miami. With a price tag of nearly $44,000 a year, many students drive $60K + cars, charge enormous amounts at the clubs in South Beach, and wear designer threads.

Not everyone does though.

At every private school with a price tag above $40K you will find extremely wealthy people but also a lot of kids at the school because of scholarships.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but almost all private colleges now are like $40K. The thing that sets NYU apart is, I think (at least for me), that it isn't friendly in the financial aid department. A lot of people I know are taking up loans to come here, including myself. The cost of living, on the other hand, is a different story, but you can find a job to cover your personal/fun expenses.
