NYU and Aid.

After a long time of reading in CC about NYU's aid, it seems as if they only give good FA to people that stand out. What I want to know is what "standing out" means. Is it a good SAT score? A good GPA? URM status?

I must know!

I think it’s need-bind so it depends on how much they think you need?

Hm. Sounds pretty arbitrary :x

I know… I’m not much help sorry! Good luck!

Oh it’s fine, thanks. It just bugs me that I can get probably get in easily because of stats, but that the hard part is actually paying for it!

have you tried getting scholarships outside of NYU?

Yeah I have a long list (being hispanic helps), but still :/

TheJuanSoto, Look at their scholarship programs, particularly a program like the Martin Kuther King Jr Scholarship if you have been good with community service, volunteer work, leadership positions, along with strong stats. Also, some other academic and honors (Deans?) scholarships which may or may not give you money. You should research the NYU scholarship programs (located in the NYU website), if you have not done so yet.

There’s the presidential honors scholarship if you’re top 5% of the incoming freshmen class. I’ve heard it’s around 20,000 dollars… not bad huh? :D

Is the top 5% based on GPA or SAT? Or both?

My GPA has always been pretty good (Always more A’s than B’s) apart from this year (junior year loaded with APs and Honors = hard!) but I think I can get a 2200 SAT…

Yeah… it’s not very clear on their website… I just know it’s the “top 5% of incoming freshmen” :S

NYU’s aid is pretty terrible. I got a Stern scholarship which wasn’t a decent amount but I don’t really know if it was need or merit based or what
