How much does legacy (having a parent who attended NYU) boost my chances of getting into NYU?

It will help a little but definitely not enough to get you in if you are a weak candidate.

Legacy candidates are always stronger than normal applicants, as unfair as that may seem. Depending on the institution, legacy may be enough to gain you an acceptance on its own, or it may tip you from waitlist to acceptance, or give you more financial aid if you were strong enough to be accepted without it. In general though, legacy is simply another factor in your favor; how strong a factor it is varies from school to school, but typically the more prestigious the school, the stronger a role it plays.

I agree with hellodocks, legacy plays a strong role in the admissions game.

By brother is currently a junior at NYU Stern and is graduating in 2012… I’m applying to CAS and was wondering if legacy counts for anything at all ???
