Hi guys,

I was just wondering, I've seen a lot of people post their SAT I scores out of 1600, which only includes their Critical Reading and Math scores. So is it true that NYU (or particularly stern) doesn't care a lot for the writing component of the SAT reasoning test?

Thank you so much in advance!

Well, I do not believe that is accurate. NYU wants all three parts of SAT I, including Writing, if you choose to send these scores as your option. Then the second option of sending ACT scores requires the Writing score to be included.

NYU weighs all sections equally of the SAT. They are one of the few schools that do.

Wouldn’t necessarily say that’s true. More and more schools are giving SAT writing equal weight with each passing year (most ivies do with exception to Cornell). It’s become standard practice to report/state one’s score out of 2400, no one I know just simply mentions the combined M+CR scores.

Going back to OP’s question: I spoke to an AO over email and a student admissions ambassador, both stated that SAT writing is considered in the same light relative to other sections for evaluating students applying to any NYU program/campus.

Thank you so much for the replies! Although this isn’t the best news… (because my SAT score out of 2400 is dragged down by my writing score by a lot) but thanks a ton anyways!
