Nyu And Ucsd

hello,

High school junior, very competitive high school, doesn't rank. top 25% for sure, i doubt i'm in top 10-15% though.

UC GPA: 3.6 W [after summer, before APPS, looking at 3.8-3.9 W, but judge me as 3.6 W]
NYU GPA: 3.4 W [again, looking at 3.7 W after summer, before APPS]

ACT score- diags might indicate 28-32 range

SAT II's - not sure what, but lets say above 650 range [just so I know what my target is]

EC's [i will list a few major ones]

-Boy Scout, Eagle
-Leadership training with the army and rotary international, white stag
-Internship with Merrill lynch this summer
-Golf, 6 years
-Boy Scout, 6 years
-Art [oil painting], 3 years
-Piano, 4 years
-NHS, 2 years
-Volunteer work with Lucille Packard childrens hospital, 200 hours
-FBLA, 2 years
-Amensty international, 2 years

above average ec's...is UCSD and NYU CAS a long shot? [i think they are]

CA resident, Indian male.

we aren't allowed to take AP's before 11th

so far

AP US HISTORY
AP STAT [senior year]
AP MACROECON
AP MICROECON [senior year]
H PHYSICS
H SOCIALOGY [summer 06, not calculated in GPA]
H PYSCHOLOGY [summer 06, not calculated in GPA]

Finance/ Economics major [no NYU Stern, 0 chance of getting in =( ] and technical minor [info. science perhaps?]

recommend any other good colleges as matches, safeties and somewhat realistic reaches? [note: SOMEWHAT realistic]

Thanks!

UCSD: Slight Reach

What's your HS like?

My HS is really ghetto and the people that get admitted to UCSD have considerably lower stats than that of neighboring schools that are competitive in good communities.

I don't even think UCSD is a reach simply because you're instate. It looks good too me. The UCs have a very holistic approach to applications where not one thing would dominate how you're evaluated.

thanks guys!

sneezy: My school is part of the Fremont Union High school district...Have you heard of Monte Vista? I don't go there, but it is a similar case. [basically if you have a 3.0, then you are in the lower third of the school] I go to Cupertino High, not as competitive, but still up there.

how would a "30" ACT score fare at UCSD or NYU?

i hope my GPA goes up...or else i'm dead.

Hi Bharat...

You have 0 chances at scoring in life.

Haha, no I would say take SAT if you want UCSD perhaps?

Or get a 33 on ACT and you will increase your chances at NYU

lol Niket, thanks.

Like I said before, in the eyes of an admin officer, no difference between ACT AND SAT, across the board.

at cupertino high...a 3.0 is not lower third. at monte vista and lynbrook it is, but not cupertino

JJNET:

they look at an applicant in their local context, not only their school, but the district as a whole. If you want to make a comment, at least support it. The point I am making is that Cupertino might not be full of burnt out
people who are WAAAAAAY over their heads, but it is a competitive school. I am not trying to offend anyone, but for some reason your post irked me.

bump......

you go to chs? lol me too

really? are you a junior?

btw, dont take AP Stat, its ****.

and i think 3.0 IS lower third..

no, im a sernior

shiz are you serious? you're taking AP stat? hmm...I'm in Algebra 2 as a junior =/ and I need to take an advaced math class sometime [along w/ math anal.] also if I do an econ/finance/accounting major it should help, right?

you think UCSD and NYU are major reaches? [since you go to the same school, you could make a realistic observation, these people are either too harsh or too forgiving]

well right now, i thikn you'd be a match or a slight reach

i think you should take precalculus instead next year becuase anal math is really low level.

for NYU i think you're probably a reach or slight reach

listen to that flopsy guy, he knows everything

Who am I to argue?

lolz

yeah flopsy, whenever a UC question arises, you're the first one to answer, plus, I'd bet the predictions are fairly accurate.

btw, is UCSD a reach because of my lower GPA? [their averages indicate 3.8-3.9]

thebrown:

Yes, UCSD is a Slight Reach because of your lower GPA. Everything else is on par.

bump!........

yeah your sats are at their average, average ecs, just gpa a bit low
