NYU and USC Film

So I would like to transfer to a film school and am thinking of applying to both NYU tisch and USC for film. I want to hear about people's experience in these schools, teachers, program design, assignments/workload, academic value, interaction with students, social scene, living, city life and opportunities for work, internships etc..
I know I am asking so much but my chances of getting accepted are low because I will be comin from a community college and I want to see what kind of quality I should aim for when looking for backup schools to apply to and overall what these great schools are all about.

Thanks!

You’d probably get more responses posting this question in the respective college forums

You have picked arguably the toughest two film schools in the country for acceptance. Both have admission numbers in the 5-6 % range. That being said, it never hurts to apply: someone is getting those spots! I will let others comment further on most of what you asked: but they are two very different schools: NYU has no campus to say, is in a very urban environment and has a very vibrant city community. USC in the middle of LA, but has a very nice campus with all the things that go with that: green space, stadiums, dorms and a real collegial feel. NYU has a more “city” feel. Both offer excellent opportunities for internships, both have excellent faculty. Some say NYU is not as industry oriented (but Spike Lee and others did graduate from there), some say USC is TOO industry oriented (but many independent filmmakers went there as well). Both require a well rounded education. Both offer need based financial aid. Only USC offers merit aid.
