NYU APP / COMMON APP - which one is better?

I have filled in half of the NYU app and i have an almost-complete common app. I want to know, does the the NYU app limits the space as harshly as the common app for the essay and short questions? (because the amount of information you fill into the common app does not all show in your pdf file and you have to fix your fonts / cut some information.)

are there any differences (major and minor differences) between both app?

If you're going to apply online, I think the regular app is better. It is based on Embark (same as umich), which I think is the easiest online application. It is easier to manage short answers/resumes/essays because you can upload them from a word processor. For the regular app, you pretty much have as much room as you want since everything will be coming from your word processor. You can upload as much as you want, but never say more than you have to, of course. Acceptance-wise, it doesn't matter which app you choose. However, be consistent. If you sent your teacher rec/counselor form from one app, continue using that app. Don't switch over.

you can't switch over? is that strictly not allowed?

I'm not sure if it's strictly not allowed or just not recommended. This is what they say on on their app instructions: "Also, we ask that you be consistent with the application and the forms you provide; if you use the NYU application, please submit only the NYU forms, if you use the Common Application, use only the Common Application forms and the NYU Supplement." I hope that answers your question.
