I’m applying to colleges right now as an Electrical/Computer Engineering major and I have the understanding that many view Tandon as the “easy” way to get into NYU and that its engineering program isn’t as strong as others for its cost, but I was personally looking for a city school with prestige and connections to employers and internships. I’m a student from Washington state but the University of Washington has updated their policies for the School of Engineering making it an incredible headache to have an engineering major, and UWCS is starting to have around the same acceptance rate as some Ivys.
Because from my understanding, NYU makes it immensely easy to change your major within the same school, and its double major program would allow me to have an additional major in Computer Science and Mathematics, is it worth it to ED2 to NYU and have peace-of-mind of my major even if it doesn’t have the same exact prestige as the UW?
What other schools are you applying to? What is ED1 if NYU is ED2? You seem very confident you’d be accepted (“peace of mind”), so I’m curious as to whether you have NYU down as a match school?
It’s never “worth it” to ED, especially somewhere as expensive as NYU, if you are not absolutely sure you want to go there - which if you have some kind of idea about its lower “prestige” (whatever that means to you) may mean you will be questioning your choice later on.
Columbia as a REACH reach, CalPoly SLO, UCSD, UBC, USC, UMich, GWU, Northeastern, Georgia Tech, UW Seattle, and then UW Bothell as my safety. NYU is a match for me because I have the stats and I’m a minority group in engineering (Middle Eastern female). I can’t ED1 because I want to perfect my ACT before I send it off and I would like to make sure they receive my score before the application review process. NYU ED is non-binding in the sense they send you your financial aid package early for you to review the cost for your family before you decide to commit or not.
NYU is amazing for connections but yeah as a Tandon student the curriculum is really that good across most engineering majors. The prestige is more tethered to the NYU name than how well the school actually is. A lot of people here also really don’t like the campus culture.
