Ok, I am appyling to NYU's early decision Musical Theatre program and I am in need of some help. I am a very strong alto and mezo soprano; however, I am quite unsure what two pieces I should sing. One needs to be a ballad and the other needs to be an uptempo. Then the monologues need to be contemp. I am always playing comedic roles including Mme Thenardier but serious roles in between such as Tamora from Titus Andronicus. I need as much help and advice possible!! Thanks!!

I don't sing myself...but wouldn't you identify yourself in just one voice part if asked, not 2 (alto and mezzo soprano). I know people have range, but this sounds like you aren't sure and haven't had professional lessons to identify your part.

Definitely sing/do an age appropriate piece (in your native accent!) and stay away from material that is done to death and just too popular. Some colleges also recommend/state that you do not use Sondheim pieces for your audition.
