I was wondering which bank system is the most common around NYU and what banks NYU students use the most

Thanks in advance

from what i've heard, WaMu is great

i work at wamu!! its the shiat

how is Citi or Chase Bank for NYU...are they pretty common around washington square??

bank of america, chase, HSBC, WaMu are all very close to nyu. i used wachovia before i went to school and i can tell you, there are no wachovias near wash sq park. the nearest one i think is by madison square garden/penn station.

yeah I have wachovia and when I was up there for a summer program, I think I went to a wachovia like twice in 6 weeks, cuz they don't exist!

im thinking about commerce tho, cause they reimburse ATM fees

What about Citi?

citibank is rreally close too, they have one a block away from washington square, and theres another one being made on 6th avenue, and im pretty sure theres one by union square?

i like citibank... i can overdraw $500 without penalities and no fees for checking/using someone elses atms (accept for the fee the atm charges)

Citibank has a promotion that there is a citibank within every 2 blocks from where you are in new york.

There are both a citibank and a chase within a block of my dorm. I use bank of america but it doesn't really matter as long as your bank has a branch somewhere nearby.

see where you can get the best deal from... You won't be going to the bank too often...and if you're like me, the few times you have to get money, you wont be by the dorms anyways.

check card/debit card ;)

Bump for the person that asked about banks.

try to find a bank that is in the city and in your town. .. unfortunately for me I live in this tiny tiny ct town and none of the banks we have are anywhere near nyu (if in the city at all). I'm setting up an account with one that doesn't have crossbank atm fees... so I don't have to go uptown to get cash.
I agree with all the above... except I don't think there is really a bank of america near nyu (or I missed that). I know there are about 8million in tourist town though.

Chase is near me so I think I'm going with them. However, they charge for checking but I heard in NYC, NYU students get free checking.

thanks tally

I use Wamu. Because it is amazing.

Wamu -> Free checking

I use chase and I'm pretty sure there are no fees for checking if you open a student/college account
Plus there's a TON in the city, everywhere - I was in there a few weeks ago and I saw them all over the place - very convenient
