Is anybody applying to NYU or Barnard? If so, how are the applications coming? Does anyone know either school's policy on notifying applicants... as in does everyone find out around the same time or do they just let you know when they've made a decision?

anyone? anyone at all?

I am applying to both NYU and Barnard. The applications are coming fine, but I do get anxious about them at times. The thing I hate most is that there is so much to do, especially for Barnard who wants the mid-year reports. With my already busy college schedule (especially with me signing up for 6 classes next semester), it will be hard to follow up with all my professors and make sure that they sent them, call the admissions office to make sure they got them, call my high school for transcripts, arrange to have my test scores sent.....all that while maintaining a high college GPA is very overwhelming.

I know that, with NYU, everyone is notified around the same time, but some people may be notified a little later due to special circumstances (i.e. artistic review, problems w/ application...). Barnard, however, does rolling notification for the spring semester by Dec. 15th and fall semester by May 15th.

As far as the actual applications, I am already hard at work on them even though they are not due for me until April 2006. I have printed out the paper application from the website and am practicing. I have put my activity resume together, and I am frequently posting questions on the NYU admissions message board, which I highly recommend you do. I am starting my essays and will have them edited by my English professor and the writing center at my school until they are perfect enough to send in.

How are your applications coming? If you need any advice about them or want to chat about them, let me know!

Hey, thanks for the info on the notifications.

I've sent my apps off finally (thank goodness), but there have already been little annoyances such as NYU not receiving my HS transcript and Barnard not being able to tell me if they have received all of my materials until they put it all up online or something. I must've written about a hundred drafts of all the common app essays and supplement short answers, and getting the mid-semester reports was easier with some teachers than with others, but all in all I think they're strong applications. Much better than my freshman apps.

It seems like you're putting a ton of thought/work into your apps and that's great; it's nice to know that even if I don't get in I really couldn't have put more effort into the process. Are you applying anywhere else? I know it's a ton of extra work (especially for Barnard), but obviously you want it enough, so I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck with everything!

I know alot of people who applied to Barnard from my high school and they all had the same problem. It takes awhile with them for everything to be counted and show up online.

I remember my freshman applications to NYU and Barnard. I printed out the application like twelve hundred times. I practiced from junior year until my applications were sent off...and I still didn't get in..lol... But I knew I wouldn't because of my high school record.

I know what you mean when you say that, even if you don't get in, you know that you did all that you could do. Even so, I wish you all the best.

I am putting tons of work into my applications because I really want to go for reasons other than the fact that both schools are in New York City. It seems like no one at my school has any passion, either for the school or for what they are studying. I always hear such good things about Barnard and NYU. The whole NYC things is just a plus plus plus!

I am also applying to Fordham University at Lincoln Center because of the Individualized major. How about you?

Let me know how your applications turn out. I can't wait to be one of the people to congratulate you on both your acceptances!

I didn't apply to either school in HS... the major I was looking for (International Affairs/Relations) wasn't at Barnard as an undergrad program, and NYU's major was an extremely small one, so it wasn't guaranteed I would be able to pursue it. I also wasn't crazy about an all girls' school, because I didn't understand the Barnard/Columbia relationship at all.

I'm also applying to both for reasons outside of their NYC location (although I agree with you that that's a huge plus). Barnard would just be a fantastic educational experience, and NYU is an excellent school as well with what I consider a unique major that I'm interested in (Dramatic Literature, Theatre History and Cinema).

I looked at Fordham too, but since I have never been able to visit the school, I didn't want to apply unless I was sure I would like to go there. I will probably apply to Brown next semester (since they only release the transfer apps later in the year) for Spring '07.

Thanks so much for your support. Keep me posted on your application process as well; I'm sure you'll end up at a great school that you'll love in the end. Good luck!
