<p>I am a Junior at a public school in Arizona who would LOVE to attend NYU.
My GPA isn't great, but I'm sure after this year it will go up a little.</p>

PSAT Scores: 205
SAT Score: Will get in December, taking for 2nd time in January, will 2200 be an acceptable score or should I aim 2300+?
Rank: Top 5-10%</p>

Will be excellent, recommendations too (already know who I'm going to have write them)</p>

<p>I am extremely interested in foreign languages (although not Spanish), Japanese in particular. I did a foreign exchange trip the whole 2nd semester of Sophomore year and got 900+ hours of Japanese language study in and reached fluency. I hope this can differentiate me from others!</p>

<p>I would like to attend NYU for a variety of reasons. I always found myself as more of the 'creative' type, although I never fell into an exact category. NYU seems like a really unique and accepting place and I'd LOVE to go there (CAS International Relations/Affairs Major, Japanese Language Minor). I'm planning on applying ED next year. </p>

<p>I will need some sort of financial aid (my family is upper middle class but $35,000/year isn't really doable).</p>

<p>DO I HAVE A CHANCE??? Do you you think that my studying abroad in Japan really differentiates me to colleges??</p>

<p>You definitely have a shot, no need to ask about that. you have rigorous classes, and a decent GPA (I’ve known people in my school who got into NYU with less), and your experiences set you apart.</p>

<p>I’d say a 2200+ is fine, it stops meaning as much after that.</p>

<p>and yeah, i’m not a fan of spanish either (even though I took it for 6 years) :P</p>

<p>you’d have a decent shot, my friend with stats lower than yours just got in.
I’d say make sure you have a decent SAT score and keep your GPA up, and you should be good. But keep in mind colleges are completely random sometimes in their accepts and rejects ;)</p>

You were talking about Stern right? I feel confident I could go to CAS but Stern is very prestigious and has a much lower acceptance rate than CAS. I will note however that there are some students from my high school that are currently at Stern.</p>

<p>Yeah, My friend with lower stats got into stern.</p>

<p>another friend had a slightly higher GPA than you (3.8) and got in.</p>

<p>You should take AP Calculus AB next year if you want to have a better chance for Stern. Your GPA is solid. Any other extracurriculars? Don’t bother joining lots of new clubs during senior year; colleges want to see commitment.</p>

<p>I think you will definitely get into the Liberal Studies Program (look it up if you don’t know what it is), and have a great chance of getting into CAS if you can write decently and really show your interest in NYU. Stern will be difficult to get into, so I think you should just apply to CAS.</p>

<p>I did do freshman tennis and JV tennis as well.
I think I’ll apply to CAS- it’s definitely my best shot. Thanks guys!</p>

<p>If you’re strong in math, i’d suggest taking AP Calculus BC instead of AB.</p>
