I'm going to register for classes at orientation, but I'm really confused about which classes I have to take as a freshman. I'm planning on majoring in Biology and doing Pre-health, and I'm in the Presidential Honors Scholars Program. So I know that I already have to take the Scholars Seminars, and a Freshman Honors Seminar or Collegiate Seminar. What other classes do I have to take?

Familiarize yourself with the CAS MAP requirements:

[Program Guidelines, CAS MAP | NYU](http://map.cas.nyu.edu/page/programguidelines#selecting)

Take into consideration any credits of yours - up to 32 credits - that can be accepted by NYU (based on AP exam scores received and college courses taken), then determine if they get you out of any MAP requirements, e.g., foreign language (through intermediate level - 2 years), sciences (2 classes), quantitative reasoning (1 class).

[Exemptions and Proficiency Exams, CAS MAP | NYU](http://map.cas.nyu.edu/page/exemptionsprofexams)

[NYU > CAS > Bulletin 2010 - 2012 > Admission](http://cas.nyu.edu/object/bulletin1012.ug.admission#APEQU)

Decide what electives or major-related classes you want to take early (freshman or sophomore year), if they fit into your schedule after filling in MAP required courses.

Read posts #8-12 in this recent thread:

If you’re pre-health and a science major, you need to take General Chemistry 1 and Principles of Biology 1. For the last class, your advisor will probably recommend taking a MAP class like one of the Texts and Ideas classes or Writing the Essay. If you didn’t place out of calculus with AP scores, you could also take Calc 1 for your last class.

Thanks, jazzc, I was going to add special considerations for science majors. You simplified matters for the OP. Tisha, You need to read note #3 in the section on Advance Placement Equivalencies in the third link in Post #2 and above to see how AP exam scores and exemptions are dealt wth for majors such as Chemistry and Biochemistry (in case you are still deciding on science majors besides Biology)

Also, tisha, if you feel overwhelmed with this, just think of it as pre-planning. Your advisor should be available to help with any questions or specific issues you might have during registration time when you attend orientation.

Tisha, For more info, read the posts on page 3 of this linked thread for pre-meds at NYU, paying special attention to anything specific to Biology majors:
