NYU CAS: Econ major

I looking to transfer to NYU CAS for econ major. Or Boston College

I have earned 46 credit hours from cc with 3.2GPA.
I know it is a bad Number to get into NYU but it's CAS and I want to give it a shot.

I have very strong business experience. I have started a family business with my father 5 years ago from scratch with no advanced education, now it is well established small business making at least half a million a year.
I am planning to use this as a topic for my essay.

Do you guys think I have chance? If yes, how much?
I appreciate you all in advance...

aa very very nice about ur business experience, i had a same friend from pittsburgh in the same situation as you. He went to community college there and averaged around a 3.4gpa and around 1290 SAT, but he and his dad and his dad's friends started a business and when he transferred he got into Wharton for Business Administration/Management so if he got into Wharton with ur GPA (i have no clue about SAT) then NYU CAS might not be a problem

he must have been an extremely outstanding individual. Most people froma CC with a 3.4 wouldn't have a shot in hell at Wharton, so to the OP, I would consider that an extraordinary acceptance.

To the OP, a 3.2 is not very good. I believe NYU has a 3.6 cut-off so you may want to look into that. The transfer rate is approx. 31%. Boston College has a transfer rate of around 13%. If I were you, I would look around some more. Boston University is a possibilty but it will still be tough. What state are you in? CCs usually have a good agreement with state schools to help get their students in. Depending on your residency, you may have a better option in-state and it would be more practical. A 3.2 would hurt anyone trying to transfer into NYU or BC, but a CC is generally considered to be easier than a 4 yr university, so your GPA is not going to be the same as someone with a 3.2 at a university, but lower.

Your business experience is great - use it in your apps. But definitely look around some more, as you have chosen two of the more difficult schools to get accepted into - particularly BC.

bc doesn't take many transfers.
i think you'll get into nyu.

Actually, I live in IL and have gotten admissions(Fall 2006-2007) to UW-Madison, GWU, UM-CP, OSU all for Econ major. But I have turned down all of them and have decided to stay 1 year and put more time in my business.

Once I get into any school next fall, I will be spending most of the time in studying to raise my GPA. (Thinking about going to law school; I already started studying LSAT)

So, If I don't get into any of the private universities in urban areas with a lot of business going on, I am going to have to choose to go to UIUC-business(prob. finance or Management).

But the problem is that I only have 46 credit hours completed, whereas, they require 60 credit hours from their transfer applicants. That is one of the reasons why I prefer NYU even though it is not stern which is extemely competitive.

"i think you'll get into nyu."

A 3.2 from a CC? I'd call NYU a reach.

Sunada - If you have UIUC in-state, that is a great deal. It is a top-notch business program (which I'm sure you already know) so you can't go wrong. Either way, good luck. You've got a good deal goin already if you've got UIUC as a backup. I still think you'll need to raise your GPA for NYU and that BC is probably not going to happen.
