I am an international student, 100% korean.

SAT: 2010 (R:580 M:770 W:660) R+M: 1350

SAT2: I only sent 800Korean cuz i did pretty bad on the other subjject tests lol

GPA: 9th-2.7
10th-4.1
11th-4.1

I was at a Canadian school for my 9th grade,
now, I go to little private school in san-diego.
My current school doesn't do UW, so my GPA on the official transcirpt
is 4.1 wooha!

EC: mediocre. Did many things but I don't think any of them 'stand' out.

Essays: Pretty decent, I guess.

What would my chances be?

I applied to Sociology.

Would my low reading score be taken into consideration since I am an "international"?

From what I’ve heard, they have higher expectations from internationals. Either way, don’t let that get you down. That 2.7 GPA may hurt you; but the upward trend will definitely work to redeem you. I can’t really say whether or not you will get in, but good luck!

if you want to get a more accurate chance, you should provide more information in your post. even if you don’t think your extra curriculars amount to much you should still provide them. you should also provide any APs and scores.

Internship at a Law firm

I am taking 2 APs this year (Gov, Calc) and took AP US last year with a 3 for the exam.
I took several honors classses

On what are we basing this assumption that us unis are expecting more from international students than they are from American? I’ve heard the opposite from everyone I’ve spoken to.

Ah right, well that’s a given. So they wouldn’t expect anything more from an international than they would from an american assuming that both applicants are top notch, as it were :p

well i hope you’ve got a good shot as you’ve got the same stats as me pretty much, cept i did the the uk curriculum…

tbh, from what i’ve seen these threads cant really give any meaningful indication of someone’s chance, tbh i’d just be guessing if i said anything (but that’s me personally). you’re much better finding some kind of professional who you can phone up if there’s none in your area/school. that’s what i’ve done.

im a little confused about the acceptance stats for NYU and it confuses more when it comes to CAS. Ive seen many korean students who got into CAS with SATs around 1900. But when I read the threads here, people that apply to CAS have pretty decent stats… Like applicants for CAS mostly have SATs 2100~2200…Well, In korean college info websites, people generally think/believe that SAT over 2000, and GPA 3.7~ are enough to be accepted to CAS.

NYU and many top universities will look “holistically” at your application so there may have been other factors that got those students into NYU. Nothing is guaranteed though, I’ve seen people get rejected from CAS with really high marks.

wjpstar - don’t pay too much attention to the threads you see on CC. most of the kids on here are very high-achievers; it will only give you a skewed perception of what good scores are. 2010 is a very good score.

dang youre an angel Audrey. That helps a lot! hahaha. Yea, I know that 2010 isnt a bad score, but when I compared it to others’ in CC, I feel like I have to shoot myself or somethin. anyways, yea, youre an angel
